OK ... here's how we know about !

I saw it used in a test page on the dev site by one of the Italics, while looking through all the most recently created articles. I put it on my dev server space to induce paranoia (successfully smiley - devil). Tango saw it on my space and created the article where Pheloxi first saw it before posting about it here!

If you don't believe me, see F89327?thread=179741 on the dev site smiley - winkeye

Surely inducing paranoia is a bit against the Ace's Code of Conduct, Rho?

So now we've moved from an "I'm more of a computer nerd than you" competition to an "I'm more modest than you" one. smiley - erm You two really can't be trusted in the same thread/forum can you, Rho and Spelugx?! smiley - winkeye

What worries me is that Rho has time to look through the recently created articles on the dev server and dig out little secrets like that... wouldn't it be better used writing guide entries? smiley - tongueout

smiley - erm did anyone else look at Rho's link in post 102?

anyone got an actually relevant link to the dev pages?

That's not really possible, Kea. Even if we put the full URL in a posting here, you would still need an ID and password to get in. One of the suggestions I made somewhere else was for tags to stop the parser making things into links when they aren't appropriate, ie the opposite of the <. /> </ .> ones.

Oooooh, I've never heard "Elvised" used as a verb before. That's great!

now i'm totally confused. a simple reply to my question, stating that there is information about the tag but its on a restricted site and there's nothing on h2g2, would have been nice.

can i take from all this that things that are in development are on another site. that they can turn up on h2g2 informally, but eventually will be notified officially ~somewhere~ on h2? (and that this hasn't happened with the tag yet).

i guess i don't understand why this discussion has ended up on this thread, which i thought was about an h2g2 announcement of some new changes (and naturally i assumed the thing was part of that).

now that i've figured out that the link isn't even on this site i understand your reply SEF (kind of).

I'm certainly not trying to make you feel stupid, Kea. smiley - sadface

There was no official notification of the tag on the dev server. There were other official changes listed which we tested. There were a few other things we found wrong/interesting anyway. There were experiments being run by staff from various sites (which we naturally spied on and poked at). One of those staff had that tag which has now apparently been ported over to the live site (although we weren't told it would be and it didn't work here beforehand). I still haven't seen an official announcement of it, so it isn't surprising that you haven't either.

Did I miss anything you wanted to know out of the explanation this time (not including stuff which is still secret of course)? smiley - erm

thanks SEF smiley - ok

i was feeling stupid after reading the last few pages and not understanding what was going on. i made the mistake of thinking that post 102 by Rho was a reply to my questions of the previous page. i guess it wasn't.

also pheloxi* was answering my questions but i think he and other people on this page have a whole knowledge base that i don't, so i ended up more confused.

i do have a few more questions...

1. what is the 'dev server' ?

2. is the new tag part of the changes announced yesterday? if so how come they didn't mention it in post 1?

3. and how would one know about other changes yesterday if they weren't mentioned in post 1?

i'm not the only newbie posting on this thread. hoping this isn't a geek only zone smiley - winkeye
