1. In the current situation, "dev" stands for development. Any organisation with even the slightest pretension to providing good service will test out new software away from the unsuspecting general public. This is standard good practice - so naturally some organisations or parts of them don't do it! smiley - cross Tick v.g. for h2g2. smiley - biggrin

2. As I said before, I don't think the new tag has been officially announced anywhere (private or public). However, clearly it has arrived with the other changes anyway. It has to be up to the italics to explain the lack of a mention in post 1. It could have been an unintentional port smiley - winkeye or perhaps it never occurred to them that the majority wouldn't already know about it (people often get these blind spots about things which are obvious or well-known to themselves). smiley - erm

3. I don't know. The slightly longer answer is to wait for one of the usual suspects (eg in the bugfinders group) to run into something fun and decide to share it. Spying on the activities of italics (the visible ones and the undercover ones) is sometimes interesting. smiley - bigeyes

smiley - yikes After all that restricted info I'd better not stick around to get lynched! smiley - run

smiley - laugh yeah, well i have been feeling like i've stumbled into the morning tea room of an h2g2 secret society.

the more you answer my questions, the more questions arisesmiley - headhurts. thanks for taking the time though.

i will take up your suggestion - i can see some serious spying is in order...

You just insert the tag anywhere you like in the code on your page, just like you would with a smiley. It seems to work everywhere that I've tested it smiley - ok

Yes sorry GD (et al). I went back to the beginning and read it again before I posted but somehow only focused on the mention of logout links to other skins. smiley - grovel

I tested the Friends thing yesterday and it didn't seem to work. So I suppose it would be safe to mention that change now - except there's nothing for anyone to see! smiley - biggrin

I haven't tested the only bespeak when bespoken to aspect though (as that would require a new ID). smiley - winkeye

PS Sorry, Kea, I _am_ deliberately talking in code this time.

Rho

smiley - erm I did try to answer the questions...

From <./>Aces-Why</.> (although it appears in all the Volunteer Groups "Why" pages): "We're constantly developing future versions of h2g2, and every time a new release goes up on our test site, we will let you ... play with and comment on what we're adding to the site." - the dev server is this test site.

While *cough* fiddling around on it, I came across the new tag, which wasn't officially announced anywhere on either the test site or the live site.

> What worries me is that Rho has time to look through the recently created articles on the dev server and dig out little secrets like that... wouldn't it be better used writing guide entries?

smiley - whistle ...but causing the tag to become widely known on the live site, inducing mass paranoia, is surely worth it! smiley - devilsmiley - winkeye

Whoami - iD dislikes punctuation

smiley - erm Careful not to spill the beans on stuff from the dev server; it could land you in all kinds of trouble with TPTB...

Whoami? smiley - cake

Rho

I haven't said any more about the Dev server than TPTB in <./>Aces-Why</.> and F48000?thread=230970#p2727632

is also already on the live site just now, so it's not revealing a new feature that might be removed, causing disappointment...

It's already part of the site and people found out about it before I posted anything to this thread.
