Take a look at A972650 for how it can be used in cults and societies... I've been wanting a tag like this for some time, but didn't think about asking for it - and now it's here!

Better than I can manage. I'm usually weeks late on these developments.

Hmmm... The Brunel badge says "Official h2g2 Community Artist", the classic badge says "h2g2 OFFICIAL Community Artist"; why the different emphasis? smiley - erm

I suppose it's a typo. In theory, one of those would imply an official artist of h2g2, which is a community, while the other is an official artist of only the community section of the larger h2g2. Is this how others would interpret it?

I think it's just to fit with all the other banners, Peet. It would be more pertinent to ask why the new Brunel badges had the change of emphasis when they were brought in.

Smij - Formerly Jimster

The reason for the discrepancy is simply that, if you examine the original badges, they have the h2g2 logo (which contains the letters h2g2 underneath) and then 'official Staff' or whatever-group-it-is underneath that.

In the brunel badges, the design didn't allow for the h2g2 logo to appear, so the name h2g2 had to be incorporated into the name, and it was felt that it flowed better to say 'Official h2g2 Staff' (or whatever) rather than 'h2g2 Official Staff'.

Hope this helps,

Jims

Well, I'm very happy with my nice new green Post Reporter badge, which looks lovely against the gorgeous blue of Goo. I like all the changes, especially the at-a-glance guide to how long ago a Researcher last posted on Personal Spaces - that'll be very handy.

yes, very nice. I was wondering if the last posted and eyes had been there all along, and I had just missed it, or if the were, in fact, new.
And then I wondered what the eyes meant.
And then I found this thread.
Thanks

Now this may be nothing to do with the new things, but.

When I visit Preferences from a page in Plain skin (excuse full URL, but http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/U91473?skin=plain) I get the option to set my default skin to plain, but not in any of the other skins.

Is there something I'm missing? Sorry, but haven't really been paying attention to new features, skins and the like since Real Life caught up with me smiley - biggrin

That's exactly right. The skin is hidden in the other skins (don't ask me why, I'm sure a guru will help you) but if you select the plain skin by hand (either by adding ?skin=plain to the end of a url, or specifying "plain" instead of the skin in your url) you can then set it permanently in your preferences so it comes back every time you log in. smiley - biggrin

The plain skin isn't generally available because it's not finished. It's something I started putting together before Christmas, and only put it live in the last release because some users on digiboxes and other limited browsers were reporting problems using the existing skins. The plain skin is about one-third the size of the regular skins, so it's much quicker to load and doesn't blow up digiboxes.

But as a result, it's only partially finished (there's no link to search at all, and no BBC toolbar) so we don't link to it from the normal skins.

It's a nice skin though, Jim. I like it. I still choose Brunel for the sake of all the extra little bits (the layout of personal space is far superior to any of the other skins), but sometimes I switch to plain for speed smiley - smiley and simplicity.
