I would seriously suggest that Joely Richardson is approached to play Trillian (I'll approach her fnarr fnarr) and Michael Palin has a go at playing Arthur.
Tony Blair could play Zaphod because he really is two-faced!!!

I agree completely.
Jim Carey is NOT the right actor for Arthur Dent.
Jim carey has no subtley, he is a campy vaudvillian, no disrespect intended.
A classic straight man is required who has naivete and honesty

Taking h2g2 to Hollywood was the worst thing DNA did. There will be a complete rewrite, they'll choose the wrong actors etc, etc, etc.

Carey no ~ no ~ no! Stephen Fry could do Ford - which I suppose would fit in with Hugh Laurie doing Arthur.

There is no way that Hollywood will be able to understand H2G2 and create something that puts across the genius and spirit of the radio series / books. They probably won't even get close to what the tv programme did (which by all accounts DNA hated).
Does anyone know if there is anyone still alive working on the project who is protecting DNA's interests and the interests of the real fans of H2G" - i.e. stopping Hollywood making a total mess of this project???

Robbie Stamp, who was Douglas' friend and colleague at The Digital Village is still an Executive Producer on the project, so he'll be looking after Douglas' interests.

Zarquon's Singing Fish! Posted Sep 14, 2002
There have been films recently where English characters have been played by English people with real accents, eg Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Chicken Run (which had - gasp - Northerners - in it!). So it's possible for it not to be 'Hollywoodised'.

Has anyone seen 'Coupling'? I think the guy who plays Susan's boyfriend in it (sorry, can't remember his name) could pull off being Arthur Dent very nicely. It'll never happen, of course, and we'll end up with Mel Gibson playing Dent because he thinks he can be funny...

I wasnt aware of Carey being in line for the role of Arthur. I dont know if the film is a good idea. I sort of enjoy the cult exclusiveness of having just one series Who would you cast in the roles?
I would have Simon Pemberton from log as Arthur, Simon Pegg as Ford and Steve Coogan as Zaphod

Jim. He's up for Zaphod then? That's not so bad - as long as he only gets to play one of the heads. The other could be played by wossname...Danny from W&I.

Latest news:

The only new information here the name of the new screenwriter - Karey Kirkpatrick, who's 'completing the script' based on Douglas' final draft.
No news on start date, budget approval or anything else, really. So it's mot much further on than when Douglas was alive, but at least it's still moving.
