Well, I thought it was witty. Or something similar.

Hello. I agree Jim Carrey would be an absolute disaster as Arthur Dent. Robin Williams would be an interesting choice and he's certainly got the acting chops. What would you think about Tom Hanks in that role? He's an absolute first rate actor in my book but I'm not sure if he can do the Brittish accent - can he?
While we're on the subject of this movie: What about your feelings about Jay Roach as director? Do you really want the director of "Austin Powers" to taint "our movie" with his rough, utterly tactless hand?! I think not!

Did I just post this in the wrong thread? I can't find it in the conversation list for this topic.

Don't worry about it - I made some very embarassing misposts in my first few weeks! The less said, the better...
I see what you mean, hitchhikers in the style of austen powers wouldn't work.

Okay, looked a little in the backlog, and I see that Spyglass Films has the rights to HHGTTG. Good. They'll do a fine job.
Now, for my ultimate cast list:
Terry Gilliam as director.
Stephen Fry as Arthur Dent.
Hugh Laurie as Ford
Craig Charles (Lister from Red Dwarf) as Zaphod.
Kristen Johnson (Sally from 3rd Rock) as Trillian
Marvin should be the voice of Stephen Wright.
The problem the BBC had with turning the radio show into a television series was the lack of proper visual effects. Now that's not a problem - but the visual effects can't get in the way of the story. I'm thinking for Zaphod to look completely real, they'll have to completely render his body on the computer, then use live action to map in his two heads.

It is possible for them to give Zaphod two heads without the need to render the body (which is 1. Very difficult, as we're all used to looking at humans and can tell CG bodies from real bodies during close-ups and 2. Needlessly time-consuming). A good way to do it would just to have Zaphod on set with one head real and the other blue/green. The second head can then be transplanted onto the blue/green later.
Apparently DNA fancied Hugh Grant as Arthur Dent (source= Cinescape) and Jim Carrey is still tracking the project, as he wants to play Zaphod.

Hugh Grant has three facial expressions: befuddled, bewildered, and happily confused. So he'd be just about perfect for the role, but he's just too good looking to be that much of a geek... Arthur seems to be adrift in the universe, while in all the movies I've seen Hugh Grant in, the universe drifts around him.
Thanks for the link - I'll go check that out!

Hugh Laurie wouldn't be great as Arthur Dent, because his face is rather long. Hugh Laurie could be Prosser, or the Book. He could be heaps of people. If anyone saw the last episode of Blackadder II, you would have heard his great ability to mimic Germans, waitresses, sheep and he's a great actor.

Here's a website with information on the H2G2 Movie. Apparently, it's a total flop. Here's the link (it should work):

'The Stax Report' labels the script as very bad. According to this, Zaphod, while in his boat on Damogran, throws a can of beer or something away, and his second head and third arm DISAPPEAR! I'm not sure if it's true, but if it is, I'm going to be angry.

Did you happen to look at the DATE of those reviews? May & June of 2000. DNA had apparently completed a screen play very shortly before he died in May 2001.
