There's something not quite right about Rocking Around the Christmas Tree in August. It seems perverse. Taditionally, at primary school anyway, we used to start rehearsing the old carols about late October time. That seemed too early and I would have to agree with late November.
Of course you can play xmas tunes anytime. But that isn't even ironic. I think its a bit sick to be honest...

Yes, I am the best singer you've never heard. I also play violin to an acceptable standard, am slowly getting to grips with fingerstyle guitar and am learning the piano alongside my six-year-old son, who thank goodness is not learning more quickly than I am. Influences are wide. i am an evangelist for Martin Simpson, one of the world's finest folk/blues guitarists and you must check him out. Rock/indy/quality popular music/folk/traditional are all there on my shelf in a vain attempt to stay young. Apart from that a passion for classical music is also going to be my ruin. Practically anything involving rhythm and melody floats my boat. It ranks alongside mountains but below a Polish woman in the passions of my life. Please may I join?

Hey, the name's AmericanNamedBob.
I'm researcher #U186232, and I'm sing. Commonly a tenor, I tend to fluctuate between parts as my conductor requests.
I enjoy all types of music, although alternative is gaining ground in my collection. Working at a music store has added to my already broad range of musical tastes.
I'd simply like to see this club flourish, and maybe eventually get cards printed up for all of us, to be 'card carrying members of the ...'
Thanks!

Hi,
I play Guitar (acoustic), Recorder (both types of fingering), and I'm trying to learn Piano. I do sing, but not according to my sister.
My favourite performer is John Williams, and I like Bach's music most out of the "classical". However, I also love Musicals, especially the older ones, and often spend my practice time strumming and singing rather than doing scales. Very undisciplined - slap wrist!
What do I want from the Guild? Just to find like-minded people, and be able to discuss music other than the contents of last week's pop charts.
I can't really help you with maintaining the pages - I know didily squat about GuideML or HTML. Sorry!

Otter - Itinerant maggot drowner and guardian of the machine that goes BING! Posted Nov 8, 2001
Greetings fellow musos! My name is Otter (no really?) I play electric six string guitar, but i'm primarily an electric bass player. I also play the bodhran and sometimes make horrendous noises with a blues harp.
My influences range from heavy rock thruogh dub reggae to ambient trance, with a bit of new age mellowness thrown in for good measure. My current favourite bands are Ozric Tentacles, Dreadzone, and Fu Manchu (stoner rock kicks butt!).
I would just like to be able to chat to people who also have an interest/understanding of various music genres. My tastes are quite varied and I'm willing to give anything a listen at least once, maybe twice, before either liking it or dismissing it. Although I do detest most of the so called "chart" music (used in the loosest sense of the word ).
I have been in a few bands over the ( too many ) years, the last one was an outfit called simply "R.T.A." as we all rode motorbikes and had all crashed them at one time or another. We played a type of stoner rock/punk music and wrote most of our own material. unfortunately the band fell apart in 1996 due to "musical differences"
. I would like to put another band together at some point, but never seem to get around to it. Maybe with some encouragement from the guild I will sort it out. Ta for letting me ramble on, but music is a big part of my life. Otter.

That's the kind of thing I'm hoping for too - you can find yourself getting a bit stale. Well maybe that's just personal!

Make ya right there me old piano tuner! Nothing worse than running out of inspiration and starting to curl up at the edges. I'm hoping to pick up a modicum of inspiration and motivation from all the other musos on the site, ( y'self included! ). Keep music live and loud! it's the only way. Otter.

Rat, who can't remember his way round this bloody thing. Posted Nov 12, 2001
Lemme in pleaaaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeee. I'm a tramp singer and have been for six years until 6 months ago and now I just fiddle around with a 6 string gittar. Should be a twelve string gittar like it once was but alas the money runs out quicker than it comes in so I gotta make do with my li'l ol' six string.
What do I do? Hmmmm...I call it folk-blues only its not actually folk-blues. Its just me singing what ever I wrote down or whatever comes into my head and knocking out some tune or other at the same time. Too folksy to be blues, too bluesy to be folk....
One thing I did learn though is that gittars are like women....gotta treat 'em good and right and most importantly - you gotta pluck the right stings.
Sign me up.

Sorry, I posted a thread asking to join on the Musicians Guild page. Ignore it.
1. I play bass (bass guitar mostly, standup a little bit), guitar, voice box, and violin. I like to hit drums, but only (he added with a look that would have sent sane men scampering into the trees) as a hobby.
2. Lots o' stuff. Beatles, Dylan, TMBG (They Might Be Giants), Dire Straits, Who, Pink Floyd, etc.
3. To join.

I play the flute and piccolo, piano, and some percussion. I've also played around a little bit with a clarinet, a violin, an alto saxophone, a french horn, a really old trombone and a sousaphone. I sing as often as I can, I don't have a bad voice, but it's not trained or anything. I also do some arranging and composing.
For the life of me I could not tell you my favorite kind of music, or favorite group. I love all music, because every different song and every different style has so much to offer the listener, that I could never choose just one.
As for what I want out of the Guild, I'm not sure yet, I'd like to know what it has to offer me and vice versa, and the I'll let you know if I want something else.

I play the bassoon for fun and profit (that is, if I could get anyone to pay me) but in reality I'm an engineering student who wastes way too much time on music, and hope that the Musician's Guild will help me achieve that probability.

Flying Betty,
I'm also an engineering student (civils). What are you doing?
Has anyone got any idea why the above requests for entry have been ignored? Has the Guild colapsed, or been abandonned? Or are they just all on holiday or something?
Cadi
