1.What instrument(s) do you play, or want to play? Do you sing?
I play a total of 16 different instruments. Music comes very naturally for me, and while I was growing up, I was surprised to learn that I could pretty much pick up an instrument and be able to play it decently within a few days. But, as a result, I got bored with one instrument quickly and to keep myself interested, I'd just move on to another instrument. My music instructors throughout school would give me unrestricted access to the band room and storage rooms where the school-owned instruments that were currently not being used were kept. Hence how I ended picking up so many instruments
Main instruments (ie: what I own): keyboard, flute, Bb clarinet, Eb alto clarinet, trombone, cornet, guitar
I also sing. I compose music as well
2.Do you have a favorite composer, musical artist, band, or music genre?
Nope, I will listen to pretty much anything with one or two exceptions (ie: things that don't deserve to even be called 'music'). I'm a huge fan of the progressive-rock band Dream Theatre though, one of their biggest fans
3.Is there anything in particular you would like from the Musicians Guild?
Just meet other H2G2 musicians Oh, I'm always interested in doing long-distance joint-composing as well. So anyone around interested in that is welcome to contact me [You need to have some sort of decent recording program (for instance, Sonar by Cakewalk is what I use), a way to turn the wav files you record into mp3s (to make transferring them easier. some recording packages come with this built in, but a 3rd-party handler that does just fine is Xing MP3 Encoder), and a decent internet connection (the files can get big). It can be a lot of fun all my contact info is in my personal space]
--Also, please let us know if you would like to volunteer to help maintain the Musicians Guild pages. We are always happy to receive help from enthusiastic people who are knowledgeable in GuideML or HTML--
Sure, if you ever need any help, I'd be glad to volutneer, I'm good with HTML and GuideML isn't a far cry from HTML I've been noticing
Ok, I think I've wasted enough of your time with this huge ramble

Hi ametropia
Welcome to the Guild (although you seem to play enough instruments to be a Guild all on your own )
Anyway, there is a Guild badge at A434648 - wear it with pride

I'm vaguely adequate on guitar, drums, bass and keyboard, but am most proficient on a sequencer (does that count?). I'm quite interested in remote collaboration (I saw it mentioned earlier) with other songwriters/players because organising a real band (as opposed to a 'virtual' one) is something I've not got the time for at the mo.

Hi Andy
Does a sequencer count as a musical instrument..? Perhaps we should open that one up for debate? In the meantime, welcome to the Guild - there's a badge at A434648 for you to do with as you will...
I'll also plug your 'virtual band' thread on the Guild homepage, although I'm afraid I'm much more a 'group of people with guitars' man myself

I think a sequencer should definitely count as an instrument. I'm reasonably proficient myself, and almost took an AS-Level in Sequencing for a laugh.

Hi Zizwai
'A few chords on a guitar' is the *definition* of music, isn't it..?
Anyway, welcome to the Guild - you'll find the badge at A434648
And hello, Master B AS-level Sequencing? Are you serious?

AS-Level Sequencing, sure.
There are two AS-Levels offered by ULEAC, Sequencing and Music Technology - do them both and you've got an accredited music-related A-Level (generally accepted as sufficient for a music course by all Universities but Oxbridge, London and Warwick). I finally opted for Music Technology.

Danny B Posted Aug 5, 2002
Music Technology sounds like a sensible qualification, but is there really enough in 'Sequencing' to make up a whole AS-level? (Obviously there is, but I still can't quite believe it. Seems like doing an AS-level in 'Biology of the Pancreas' or something... )

Mu Beta Posted Aug 5, 2002
Well, to be honest, there was only 1 written exam in Music Technology and that sucked.
There's actually more theory in sequencing. Software manipulation, wave theory and soforth. Huge practical element, though.

I've played the cello for 7 years and can play a few seriously easy piano pieces.
I like Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Bob Marley. My Favourite Composer? Difficult, Bach for his Cello Suites, otherwise Shostakovitch.
