h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

All are welcome! Come in and party!

This party celebrates the beginning of the final stretch in the campaign. Dolores A. Webjello is the hostess for the dances. No serious political talk or clocks are allowed.

The room:
A large banquet hall decorated with balloons and banners. On the left as you enter is a fully stocked open bar, plus a buffet table with finger food, light snacks, and hors d'oeuvres, along with tables and chairs in comfortable seating arrangements for eating, drinking, and light discussion.

Off to the right is a series of couches for those needing a rest from the dance floor.

Dominating the center of the room is a huge dance floor complete with mosh pit, and the far side of the room has a long stage with two virtual live bands. Crater Labs, Inc. has provided a special field that splits the dance floor so that the music and lights of one band will not bleed onto the other side of the dance floor. You can dance right through the dividing line and suddenly be dancing to different music! The field allows conversation to pass through with no problem.

Guests are welcome to sit in with either virtual band if they wish. They may also set the style of music for one of the bands or have them play a specific number, simply by going up to the band leader and announcing it. Music and dancing is non-stop.

Drink, Eat, and Dance!

*finds a bottle of tequila and the helium tank, curls up behind one of curtains*

*Just popped out of the formal dining room for a look*

Music sounds great. David Bowie was an inspired choice as warm-up singer.

Now if he'd only do Teenage Wildlife!!!

*Purleeese Mr Bowieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!*

Hmmm... a little too sparsely populated at the moment for dancing! I think that I'll just try a few of these hors d'oevres and a glass of fresh orange juice.

*brings Dolores Webjello out to the dance floor*

{{Dolores: Well, it's about time. I've been waiting to dance way too long. Hours of standing under those bright lights and listening to stupid questions. [starts to wobble to the music] Can someone bring me a drink? }}

*Walks onto dance floor with drink in hand. Taps Redbeard on shoulder.*

Can I break in?

*Redbeard graciously surrenders his dance partner. GL gives Dolores the drink.*

{{Dolores: Ah, thank you, Garius. I could use about 6 of these. It's a bit slow now, but should pick up soon. Dance us over to the other side of the floor - the music on this side is a bit sedate for me.}}

*GL contemplates how Iron Maiden can be considered sedate.*

Dolores sure can wobble!

*goes over to the bar to grab a drink, considers that he's currently drinking brandy over in the dinner, shrugs, and gets one anyway.*

No, no, Dolores, I couldn't possibly dance one more. Thanks so much, though.

*GL comes wearily off the dance floor and over to the bar.*

Man, I could use a drink. A rum and ginger ale, please.

*Notices that it is the CLI Barbot serving and watches it carefully. Nods as it performs perfectly and serves him his drink. Downs the drink in a few gulps.*

That's much better. Another, please.

How you doing, GL. I see Dolores wore you out.

{{Dolores: I won't stop dancing until I start to melt. [continues dancing] }}

*strolls in with a nicely chilled bottle of vodka (it gets gelatinous if you do it properly!) and an armful of glowsticks*
lf you do melt, dear, we can have Jello shooters...
*Dolores shoots her a wry look*

Right, who's for a rave?

*finds a fog machine tucked in the corner, rigs some lasers and lights of various colors and patterns to slice through the smoke and play hazy patterns across the floor. A strobe light provides light to dance by, and the glowsticks do the rest. Odra wraps one around each arm, takes one in each hand, swaps out her tongue ring for a glow-in-the-dark model, and crowns Dolores with a wreath of light-sticks.

Signals the band to kick into something techno with a -really- heavy basebeat. Signals them to keep upping the levels until it actually causes one's ribcage to vibrate*

That's it. Good techno should give you tachycardia.

*the tracks are expertly spun as fog fills the floor and both Odra and Dolores begin to flail and wibble in frenetic time to the music*

Excuse me for interrupting.

Redbeard, perhaps now would be a good time for that dance you promised me. I do believe I hear a waltz.

*oh, the fog is confined to the pit, leaving the floor open for those wanting something a bit...less contact-sport-like*

*waves to Odra*

Hi, Odra! Good to see you. I believe Dolores has been looking for you.

Witty, I would be honored. I believe this side of the dance floor will be fine for waltzing, while Dolores can still dance with her music on the other side.

Bandleader! A waltz, please! How about 'The Blue Danube'

Extends arm to Witty. May I?

*Gives Redbeard her hand and allows him to lead her to the dance floor*

That will be lovely, sir.

*begins to waltz Witty around the floor... enjoys the sound of the words 'waltz Witty' in his head*

This is nice. You know, I love the way the light catches the sparkle in your tiara.

*engaged in mid-mosh, raises a hand in salute to Redbeard*

Found her...dare say we'll be dancing for hours!

*Dolores pays no attention, wibbling under her own power and also, due to the vibration of the floor, in rhythm to the music*

Hiya Witty!

Redbeard, tiaras in general are a bit ostentatious for most occasions, (glances at mosh pit ), but I thought it would be okay for the formal dinner. It's so nice to get the opportunity to really dress up.

Are you a natural, or did you take classes at the Fred Astaire studio?
