It's a fair cop 'guv. Or maybe not. Yesterday Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell unveiled the latest plans for the future of the BBC. The biggest shake-up, apart from the loss of approximately 2,900 jobs already announced, is the disbandment of the Board of Governers. In their place will come an Executive Board concerned with the day-to-day running of the Corporation and a BBC Trust panel which, it is hoped, will express the views of the licence payer - yes, there will still be a licence for at least the next 10 years. Chasing ratings was frowned upon and putting programmes out to independant companies proposed as a means to hone down expense. How all these changes will affect our viewing and, more importantly, what role the expansive BBC network of internet sites and h2g2 will enjoy in the future remains to be seen. A much better round-up and discussion of the green paper can be found in this forum and What is h2g2's place in Internet-Land? is an interesting conversation about the role h2g2 plays on the 'net. They would love to hear your views on both subjects | |
