Don't feel like you Have To. It may seem like everyone else is Doing It - but they're not - and you don't have to Do It if you don't feel ready.

As my two are 1 and 3, I hopefully have a few years before I need to work out what to say for that speech. I don't think I ever had that one from my parents, though - they were too embarrassed. I just had the 'when am I going to have grandchildren, eh? Oh, and no sex before marriage' comments from my Mum, which seemed an odd combination.

and for anyone in Belgium or has Belgian friends and relatives.
1, 15, 17, 45 and 75 year old people like you and me dead so far, 125 people wounded. People who were just wanting to go Christmas shopping or on their way to and from work just before Christmas. And they're dead because of a pointless madman.

Apparently the 75 year old has not died but is in intensive care. Such a senseless act.

I haven't seen any news yet so I don't know what's going on in Belgium yet. Still

A man in his 30s who had recently been released from prison for drugs and firearms offences went on a rampage in the city of Liege, throwing grenades and firing weapons at people in a market in the town centre. He then killed himself. A body of a woman has been found in his shed, where he kept guns and grew cannabis.

This is an irrelevant detail. Cannabis (along with heavy metal, BDSM and video games) is often used my the media just to make the already horrible person seem just that little bit more horrible.

These ghastly events are bad at any time of the year - but Christmas seems to add an extra layer of poignancy.

Grenades?? Good god.

I still haven't seen any mention of it here. Celebrity gossip is far more important than actual world news, doncha know.

Matina, you're looking especially shiny today. I like you better with a light film of flour since I know that means cinnamon buns are in my future. Not that I'm hinting or anything.

I saw news about the attack in the online edition of the paper here. If it were in print, it would have been in the back half of the paper. Sad really.

Front page news this morning in Sweden, it was. I guess having the suicide bomber in fresh memory added to the shock of such an attack on innocent bystanders in a fellow European country.

Whereas in the U.S. if it doesn't involve a Kardashian, Justin Beiber, Britney Spears, etc, it isn't worthy of the front page.

So very sorry to hear about Belgium.
