Go Z, (Go train!).

What MC said about rule / rules. I hear it as an exhortation to paint the map red.

Lovely sunny day here today too. Let's hope it holds.

Ti, the solid oak of the boat is so weather hardened that it'll slice through medium thick ice like a knife through butter smiley - smiley And I can't wait to see what submerging in salt water will do to a chainsaw smiley - tongueout

Home feeling more bleh than meh. Why's the sun melting the snow away all over, yet without dramatic impact on the layer in our back garden?

Of course it is... smiley - doh It is basically saying "Go Britannia" -

"Rule, Britannia, Britannia rule the waves".

Interesting how Brits have eliminated our history as an imperial nation from our collective sub-concious. If you consider that late 19thC fiction divides into two broad genres, domestic (eg Trollope and Dickens) and action (eg Conrad, Kipling and Holmes) then the sense of having the whole wide world to run around in is one of the most markedly strong thing about the latter.

But last night I was watched the first half of the biopic about Mrs Beeton (couldn't bear to watch the 2nd half - she died at 28 of puerperal fever) and in the film at least they aimed the book at "The housewives of the nation" not "the housewives of the Empire".

In fairness, it probably was aimed at the domestic market, but I do think there was a sense of being the beating heart of a global empire which we've now re-written history to forget.

You know a day is off to an odd start when you awake before your alarm. Now if I could just guess whether it is going to be a good day or a terrible day... Too early to tell.

I think that's the same one that aired on PBS a couple years ago. If so, I really enjoyed it--even the second part, where she dies of puerperal fever. smiley - sadface

You know we expect lots of pictures and updates about the new member of your household, don't you Mags? He's become the Atelier's offical cat.

The slight fever from this morning turned out to be an odd prelude to a regular migrainesmiley - headhurts Written off day, still a heavy head. No obviuos reason for it, unless it was simply sleeping badly AND being woken up by the phone at 3.30am smiley - grr.

Teh Blak Kitteh, has eaten his first meal in Marple. I was at work, my hubby put the food (with medicine) down where he has sat for several hours and a few minutes later had to give him some biscuits (he was ravenous). I hope he's coming out for a look around in a bit. George doesn't seem at all worried that he's going to be sharing with another floor walker.

All good stuff.
