Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Sep 1, 2003
*crawls out of the paperbag*
Some of the servers seem to be up and running now. I expect performance levels will be pot luck for a while until they get it all fixed.
My name is Amy the Ant and I'm an h2g2 addict.
*tries to stop shaking*

Whoopeee! I'm back!
*wipes sweat from brow*
H was keeping an eye on the logs last night and we were being hit by hackers and viruses at the rate of 900+ a minute. He said the net was close to a stand still.

Attacks on my machine have now fallen to about 30 per minute.

The last 48 hours have been slow or no going for me on h2g2. And My name is Marv and I am an addict...
I started a workout regimen today lifting weights on Mikey's weight set (Mikey= the other room mate (Bryce and fatboy being the other two)). It went ok, but I know that I am going to be paying for it tomorrow.
I want to try to get into better health all around including some upper body strength. I also hope to start cycling again soon to get the cardio and lower body stuff taken care of.

I'm an addict, but my dealer is good...the campus servers have been pretty fast.

Phil Posted Sep 1, 2003
Finally able to post again. Roumors of the death of the internet have been greatly exagerated...
A great weekend over at the victorian thingamy. Lots of people all dressed up, stalls, a fair, steam engines and heavy horses (though we missed the horses ), dressed shop windows and beer. Lots of local beers. Saturday was good, sunday was hungover
For all those with pets, we met and had a chat with a woman who was working as a spinner, spining cat hair! Lots of it collected over a number of years by the owner and being turned into thread, very soft it was too.

*phew* I was really concerned yesterday. Mainly because how a website being down ruined my planns for the day. Acutally I made lots of notes and learnt an awful lot. Which was good

* clambers over more backlog *
Eyetests and contact lenses:
There is no chance of me going down the contact lens route. The optician did say that they could be fitted - astigmatisms - but that it would be at great expense - not a good phrase - and would probably not have as great functionaility as regular glasses. Anyway, I think I look better with glasses than without
Glaucoma machine thingy:
I'm afraid my blink reaction was too fast for them to get a proper reading. The poor old optician spent about 20 minutes blowing little puffs of air at my eyeballs before giving it up as a bad job. A bit of a shame really as my Dad suffered from glaucoma in his early fifties, and I'm now only about 15 years younger than he was then. Something for me to watch out for I believe
London Eye:
Yes, I too miss the park where the Eye is now situated. It always used to be the venue for the festival/party at the end of the Gay Pride march, until that event just got to big to fit in there. Happy days.
Seriously what do you think the chances of Southwark council *not* renewing the Eye's planning permission at the end of the five year trial period? I'm thinking and here
* waves to Ben as she disappears up the M4/5/6/etc *

Coniraya Posted Sep 1, 2003
GD, if you have a family history of glaucoma you are entitled to free eye tests over the age of 40, just in case you didn't know that.

GreyDesk Posted Sep 1, 2003
Caer, yes I did know that. I just hope my reactions slow a little in the next few years so that the machine works properly on me

Coniraya Posted Sep 1, 2003
Well, that puffy thing 'is' a bit scary. I have to sit there willing my eyes to stay open, matchsticks would be useful, like in a Tom and Jerry cartoon
I like the graphic too, that donkey looks so cute, Amy. I had never heard of that chap before. It must have been such a relief to have him come upon you and be taken back to safety on a donkey.

My name is Lil and I'm an addict. *sips hot chocolate*
And there was something I was going to say, but catching up with the rest of the thread has erased it from my short-term memory.
Congrats to Amy on one of her best illustrations so far.
It got cool enough last night that the crickets stopped chirping. Zero degrees Cricket!!

Thankfully h2g2's working because I have half an hour to kill again, nothing intresting is happening in clinic or in A and E, well things are happening but there are already medical students there.

It was awful. I'm still shaking.
For the first time in months, I had a chance to spend some time reading Guide and AWW entries, and couldn't get anything to load.
[...]
Z Posted Sep 1, 2003
I'd just volenteered to become a Polisher for the underguide so I thought I really ourght to spend some time lurking in AWW, it was horrendous.
That is one of the things I like about hospitals, I can wander down to a ward and talk to people with real problems, it puts things like this into perspective. Terri was really angry on msn that their weren't technics available on a Sunday, and I just thought that if you can't get a kidney dialysis on a sunday in some hospitals, then this is making a fuss over not much at all.
Key: Complain about this post
