I do the same thing with $20 and nickle slots. I'll go drink free beer all night, and play the slots till I get bored. Some of them are actually kind of fun!

I used to spend a couple of quid on lottery tickets each week when it first started. I might buy the ones to fund Nodnol's Olympic bid when they start.
We used to play Tripoly with counters when we were kids, years and years ago. It was all the thing in the 60s in Singapore and Mum and Dad held Tripoly parties. I don't actually remember what it was about now, a bit like poker I think.

I've only played the roulette a couple of times, but enjoyed the excitement - and I decided beforehand how much I was willing to spend (willing to loose, as it might be)...
...the trouble is of course to quit while you're ahead, but then you (or at least I) get greedy and stake it all hoping to win a lot... ...which you don't, but end up loosing it all...

Rules are funny things and it is quite easy to become confused about what they are for - the more rules that are imposed then the worse off we are - outlawing something is a reduction of individual freedom. I feel most strongly about individuals rights to do what they want and have spent the majority of my adult life pottering around the world applying Pax Brittanica in various forms, affording individuals rights and freedoms, yet my particular Monastic order is seen by sections of society here and elsewhere as constrained and establishment. I quite like the idea of going racing and not betting, or going to a pub and drinking water - I enjoy being out with the small blokes, exposure to society affords them the opportunity to start to understand what life is about. On a totally separate tack, when/where is the Summer Metropolis meet? Toc - are you a fan of beer with twigs - try B*dger Champion Ale, absolutely sooperb. Lil - if you need a little respect enforcing send for the Monk!

Oh, that is a dream I shall nurture for days, of striding into the council meeting room with a squadron of monks in desert camo cassocks flanking me. That would knock the militia loonies off their seats!
Does your monastery wear berets? You could keep them on -- the cowboys remained be-stetsoned all through the meeting.

Oh yes! That would do the ticket!
It's thirty degrees here. Thirty. We laid on water for our poor students yesterday, but we were all still broiled by the end of the lesson. Thank god I'm not teaching in July.

*trying to wrap her head around the idea that thirty degrees is hot in some places - sounds pretty cold to me! *
D just spit soda in my ear. It made a fizzy noise.

30ยบ would cause a state of emergency here
There is a report in today's paper on the increase of cabriolets and convertibles in the UK. We may have dodgy weather, but we are obviously a nation of optimists.
Do they really wear stetsons, Lil? I thought it was just only on Dallas that the men all wore them.

PWM, the Summer Meet is on 28th June, see A1045946
The name badge Amy created for me is linked in post 3913 if you are able to go, so you will be able to pick out one of the Salonistas from the crowd.

I'll swap Sol's 30 degrees for my 12 degrees . I like the heat, just not the high pressure that usually goes with it.
I'm available for badge design at very reasonable rates if you have access to a colour printer. However, it's a good idea not to tell the Italics that it's one of mine otherwise you'll be barred from the comp. Personally I don't think that's fair since "getting someone else to do it" is one of my favourite creative techniques .
Do the stetson wearers also carry guns? Which century are you in over there?
Spitting in someone's ear is not normal adult behaviour, sea. Put this point to him forcefully. A good rule of thumb is "Would Kofi Annan do it?" (I live in hope of that smiley being adopted. See it on the offsite Graphic Ants.)
I didn't sleep well last night. I was worrying about stuff. This isn't good.
I must rush out to the shops before it starts to rain.

Yeah, I'd be mad except that I don't think he meant to do it. What he was trying to accomplish, I don't know, but I doubt soda in my ear was the intended result.

Lil - the monastic order wears a beret of very fetching green, and you would probably only need one or two of us - a squadron would make a most unambiguous statement! Morning young Ant - carry on. Sea, It appears that certain Sodas with a globally recognised tm such as C*ke sport excellent cleaning properties - it may be that this was a subtle indication that your aural sebaceaous accretions were approaching critical, but he wanted to protect your sensitivites and so was using his manly caring and protective gene to its best advantage?

That last thought of yours PWM does NOT bear thinking about!
Yet another application form filled in. Need to get this one posted today as the deadline is the day after the bank holiday on monday I thought it was at the end of that week. Still, it seems like I've got this application writing thing sorted after doing four in the last week or two. Hope one of them ends up with at least an interview if not a job.

For those of you who came across the (alleged) AI researcher Justin the Preacher I have news.
It appears from post 14 of F47999?thread=279059 that he was run by Hoovooloo. Or perhaps I've misunderstood the posting .

To me it looks as if Hoovoloo is behind the user ID that claimed to be the computer programme running Justin the preacher - not Justin's user ID...

Yup, "Steve" is the joke, not Justin.
sea, your boyfriend might be taking the term "sweet nothings" a little too literally.

Good day y'all! *fetches tea and fresh cinnamon buns from the kitchen and sits down with the others*
Stetsons... that's a catch-all for the various brands of cowboy hats, but yes, they do wear them up here as a working hat, and generally, they go on after the pants and shirt and stay on until they go to bed again. I believe they take them off for showers.
Guns are forbidden in the County courthouse, which is where the small auditorium is, used by county commissioners as well as other bodies and for other occasions. But the libertarian militians are angry with this rule, too. They want to be able to wear their Rugers wherever they want. They are against anything that can be felt as pressure on their big sandbox, whether it be a zoning ordinance like the one we have for Lincoln, or proppity taxes, or the gummint taking their daddy's land fifty years ago to build army ranges.
And about here the cognitive dissonance sets in, because these totally anti-authoritarian and anti-law types are also hyper-patriots. One of them wears a red-white-and-blue undershirt, and speaks at every meeting, and keeps his cowboy hat on while he does so.
My computer's fan is making funny noises. One of the fans.
