With mint jelly of course, although the men folk prefer undiluted mint sauce.
Of course, H being veggie, has the mint sauce with whatever non meat thing he is having.

Hypatia,
Good to hear Frank is getting better, albeit slowly. My compliments to you on keeping us all informed via your posts. God bless both of you tremendously, and let me wish a full and healthy recovery to Frank again. Since we are actually fairly near one another, I can't help but believe the prayers from here are registering more quickly.
Side note: I see once more that you and I are close neighbors, due to your reference to MOREnet. When we first moved to this area, I'd attempted to hire on with them, as I saw great potential to grow in a great career field. Unfortunately, neither of the two interviews I had with them yielded a position. Anyway, I used to live on the east side of Columbia, just off the Lake of the Woods exit, on the south outer service road. Now we live in Fulton, close to the Callaway power plant where I work, as it cuts down the travel time.
All our best,
B4

sea, . I'm glad you're over the 5/3 thing too. I can't say much on the topic as I have little experience, but it sounds to me like you two belong together, most certainly. You support him, and he'll support you.

'Cheap money' - what a classic!
If I were you, I'd be very careful when getting ISPs to ban spammers. Oftentimes they will ban the server the mail is coming from, and those servers can house a lot of non-spammers. The server I and fellow hosting resellers are on have experienced such problems.
There was soemthing else I was going to say. I'll think of it in a moment.

Hah! I've remembered!
I was just going to say that I've been running Linux for a few days now, and all is well. I've got a server running on my machine so I can finally get on with the programming-testing-programming-testing cycle without having to upload things.

This is a good time to thank B4 and all the rest of you for your prayers and moral support during Frank's illness. He's over the hump and is improving each day. He has developed gout as a result of too many diuretics and too rapid weight loss, so that is giving him fits. The blood clot is dissolving...he has a pulse again behind his knee. His new valve is working just like it should and his platelets are recovering. They're still not normal, but at least they're "high abnormal". So by spring I should be able to put him to work tilling my garden.
I feel like I'm the one who should be fixing a dinner for everyone. But the only one near enough to come would be B4.....and he's about 230 miles away. Guess I'll have to throw a virtual dinner party. But, I don't do mint jelly. I make raspberry and blackberry and red plum jellies.

I am the proud owner of two jars of homemade mint jelly...and I *might* be persuaded to share...or not.
Finally getting around to taking down the really ugly plastic vertical blinds. I have nothing on my front window right now (good thing I live upstairs), but I just couldn't take it another day. They were just too hideous. I am putting in a roman blind instead, and on the patio door, my old living room curtains from Pier 1.
Much improved, although I am beat from wrestling with the silly blinds!

I'm feeling a bit guilty as I think I'm the only one here who hasn't wished Hypatia's hubby well. No real reason, just that by the time I post the backlog is so large and response is so great all I have to add is "ditto."
Oh well, to Hypatia's hubby, ditto.

hati, when it's that cold, does everyone just shut down? I can't imagine going out into it.

Hati Posted Jan 5, 2003
-25C is not *so* cold here. It's just very cold. The schools will be closed at -28C, up to 9th grade, in towns. In countryside it was -25, methinks.
Other than that the life *is* a bit more quiet, people prefer to stay indoors obviously. But everything is still functioning. The situation seems to be a bit worse in Finland as they are low with their power supplies. The population has been warned to use less electricity there. It's colder there, too. In Carelia, also not far from here, it dropped down to -45C. They announced a disaster and shut everything down. The main problem, as I understood´, was the heating of block houses. Those heated with central water system, were frozen and those heated with gas can't be heated at all as they can't use liquid gas at that low temperature. So - it is a bit too cold in some places.
Here it's bearable but makes me whine and get up at 7 am on sunday morning.

Hypatia, I have worked on your network then. I have done a lot of work on the MOREnet at one point. And yes, the technology is just not there for realtime blocking of websites on the provider side. It is much easier to do on the local site side. I have to work with this technology nearly every day.
On the job front. I suspect that announcements will be made in the next week on the future of my department. I rather suspect a massive layoff in the next 2 to 6 months and few jobs left. On the plus side however, I have learned of a firewall admin position in SLC! I pray that they will call me or email me after seeing my cv.

Good luck to you, Marv! You're up late!
Hati, I remember a winter like that. It was Christmas, and I was leaving Minnesota to go home to Montana. Somewhere in the middle of North Dakota, the train stopped for a freight train and froze to the tracks for close to 24 hours. They estimated it was -60F, and -90 with the windchill. I couldn't imagine being out in that sort of weather.

Makes the freezing temeratures here (0C) a bit more bearable that in other parts of the world it's colder. Ok so in different parts it's a lovely warm summer (Loony where are you?).
