it was the night the lights went off in georgia....
Yes, Ti, I meant Tony Hillerman. He's so good. He really brings the Navajo customs to life. Thurlo is good, too. But I like Hillerman better. Ella Clah isn't as believable as Leaphorn and Chee. I enjoy the Thurlo books, but it's hard to imagine a character like Clah is out there.

Those lights should be going out, not off.
Will check out the mint jelly recipe and see if it's different than my sis's.

I've just sorted out a stack of magazines that have been lying around in my study since before Christmas and found the packet of smoked salmon that I was sure I had bought but then convinced myself I had forgotten. That explains the funny smell. Shall I book myself into a home for the terminally bewildered now?

Wow. Funnily enough one of my neighbours received a parcel of smoked salmon on the 29th that had been sent (priority mail) on the 15th...
Tony Hillerman is wonderful, and so is Michael McGarrity, whose police mysteries are set in New Mexico; his most recent had the story running around right in this area! Offhand, titles I can think of are "Tularosa" and "Mexican Hat".

Being a cop isn't that bad, sea. Especially not since it'll be my jumping off point for profiling.
I have just done perhaps the third laziest thing ever in my life. I just ordered pizza online.

Ok, here goes the ranking: I got my 'za almost 15 minutes before their estimated delivery time, so full points for that. The driver did have to call and ask for directions, though, so minor deduction there. (Aren't these people supposed to know where things are???) The food itself was tasty and my order was accurately filled, which gets them more points. Overall, I give the experience an 8.5 out of 10, and would definitely recommend it to my friends, if not my family - if only because my father is computer illiterate and would end up ordering pepperoni pizza and accidentally having it delivered to a mosque or some such.

*Wonders why Georgia would want a cop with a theater degree.*

Ummm... Undercover work? Or, in sea's case, help setting up those annoying spotlights on the fronts of cop cars.

Hypatia, you'll have to ask FG to ask the maker (it was a christmas gift to me!).
And I'm guessing Loony is at the beach.
Tomorrow is back to the grind of grad school. Don't know if I'm really up for it or not. The quarter break was too short.

Oh, and Gw7en, we always order pizza online. They take forever otherwise!

It's been nearly two years since I had take-out food. There is a Kentucky Fried Chicken place about 40 miles from here, and sometimes I think I'd love a few pieces of chicken and some biscuits, but... 80 miles?
I'm getting a new stove on Tuesday. The thermostat on the old one has gone crazy and we never know whether the temperature will be 300 or 550. A new thermostat would cost 175 dollah! So the landlady decided to get a new one. What a treat -- accurate baking!

Lil, that's great. The power company had to condemn my stove before my landlady would buy a new one...I couldn't bake for almost a year, because the gas wouldn't catch fire until the oven had been filled with gas. There would be this huge WHOOMPH! and then the oven door would fly open, and I would attempt to bake. It wasn't the safest place I ever lived, honestly.

After 3 years my turbo fan oven still gets the better of me at times. Usually it needs the temp set two notches lower than the recipe suggests, i.e. 180C instead of 200C. Which worries me when I'm cooking poultry, so I now use a meat thermometer.
Ordering pizza online is the fastest way here too. Occasionally they phone because the online delivery time is too optimistic, especially on a Friday evening when the whole town is gridlocked.

What a day. Spent most of it failing to clean up the place. However I did make a certain impact on my laundry. I guess tomorrow will have to be more of the same.
I start classes to certify for CCNA tomorrow. First classes I have taken since 1996. I have to get into school mode I guess. I am glad it is only for three weeks. I wonder if I can wrangle a student id card out of this. Hmmmmm....
