Oh dear, T. And we do need a flounce smiley don't we smiley - winkeye ? I do see what you mean about the wording of the rules though. I mean, I can see the problem with the language thing (if we have to have moderation at all...), but it is a very unfortunate way of putting it.

And I hope that's a suitable ambiguous first post. Well done, Sol... smiley - biggrin

Having said I went I feel I ought to say what I thought. I was very impressed by the Eden Project, the gardens and biomes are lovely to look at, even if you are not bothered by their message. But if you pay attention to it as well (I feel I would need a second visit to fully appreciate) there is a lot of good information and worthy work on the environment, sustainable farming and other "low fat, wholemeal, unbleached, organic, free range" topics.
Avebury looked very pretty, and I am so impressed with the ditch, a lot of work must have gone into that, but the stones, close up, seemed to be very jumbled. Probably because of house building and farming over the ages which have not affected the other stones I have seen, up north, where only the weather really bothers them. But I also want to go back to Avebury at some point to take some time over it. There and the other main sites, like Glastonbury Tor, Newgrange in Ireland, Callanish up north etc.

{[caer csd]Avebury is definitely worth several visits over time, preferably with a pub lunch included smiley - winkeye

The same with the Eden project too, especially over a period of years to see the plant growth, I'm looking forward to going the first time. I like Kew for the same reason, the new(ish) Princess of Wales Conservatory is my favourite.}

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

My first visit to Avebury was as a schoolkid. Since my school was not far from Avebury we arrived quite early one spring morning and it was still very misty, very atmospheric. Lambs were being born in the ditches between the ramparts. It was one of those days you just don't forget.

I went to the Eden project last year and I will go every time I visit my brother (who lives in Cornwall).

MR and I had a rummage sale this weekend. Her family netted nearly $900, and I, with very few items, got about $37. One of the more hilarious moments was when this crusty old woman pulled up into the driveway and without getting out of her station wagon pointed at MR's old captain's bed (the kind with storage underneath the mattress frame) and announced "I invented those 30 years before they became popular!" MR turned to me and said:

"Gee, she looks good for being 600 years old." smiley - biggrin

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

* a hologram materialises in the middle of the salon, such that Lil appears to be sitting in Bald bloke's lap. She is pale-looking, even for a hologram*

I'm still alive! But I've been ever so poorly. They wrapped me in a carpet to move me to wherever I am now and the carpet was full of fleas and I must have caught a virus.

So I just wanted to make contact, and say that I hope it won't be much longer before the posse finds me.

IRL Lil has had her house plans approved by the Historic District Preservation Committee and is now doing final stuff with the architect before launching into the "dirt" phase, septic system and slab...

If you all are comfortable with this very long thread, then fine. If you would rather have something fresh, I would like to appoint Caerwynn to launch conversation 52X, please. If Caerwynn won't, she should please delegate. smiley - smiley

I really hope to get back to regular programming soon!

If there is anybody there arguing against gun control, I wish they could see these Apes with their carbines. It's an eye opener. They have Tristram Shandy

*the hologram fades*

Now, could someone please explain to me why 'Tristram Shandy' rings a familiar bell in my brain? *searching, in vain, in the non-existing name department of her brain*

Yay, congratulation Lil on getting approval.
Tristam Shandy? No idea, but its a great roleplaying name, up there with Dirk Thrusting and Marmaduke Bonthrop Shelmerdine. smiley - smiley

Warning! Rant to follow! Sensitive beings please skip this posting! Nothing to see, nothing to see...

Cached google version of the House Rules up to 12 February, 2002:

Only include suitable URLs in your contributions. Links to websites we consider unsuitable will be removed, so if you are considering contributing something that contains a URL, please make sure that it adds value and interest to the subject of your entry, and isn't, for example, purely commercial. Unsuitable sites would include those with racist material, pornographic or sexually explicit material, potentially defamatory material, anything which encourages illegal activities, material which infringes copyright, sites which purely plug or promote commercial products or services without containing material which enhances the subject matter, or sites which may offend our users.

Now - compare that with the current House Rule wording:

Only include suitable URLs in your contributions. Links to websites we consider unsuitable will be removed, so if you are considering contributing something that contains a URL, please make sure that it adds value and interest to the subject of your entry, and isn't, for example, purely commercial. Unsuitable sites would include those with racist material, pornographic or sexually explicit material, potentially defamatory material, anything which encourages illegal activities, material which infringes copyright, sites which purely plug or promote commercial products or services without containing material which enhances the subject matter, sites which are in languages other than English, or sites which may offend our users.

Bam! Slam! Badang! Just squeeeeeeze it in, and hopefully no one will notice it!smiley - cross

And then Mr Moxon is surprised that the 'foreign' researchers are upset, because, as he puts it 'Though extrapolating this to infer that we class non-English languages as equivalent to porn is an interesting way of reading it!'
