Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Jun 22, 2002
My informants (the fleas in the Bunkhouse) tell me that The Lone Jello has got the champagne bottle - and they wish he hadn't because his singing is driving them mad.

yes, T, very much so. thanks for the heads-up, i'll go have a look.
if there are shells lying around, they're most likely spent ones, as any dangerous shell would still have the gunpowder and slug attatched, and would then be called a bullet. correct me if i'm wrong...

Thanks for the info, Amy!
Finally safe to connect computer again - we had a magnificent thunderstorm around lunchtime today, followed by clear sky and sunshine - followed by yet another thunderstorm! They were impressive enough to cause me to run around and unplug my computer, my TV, my phone...
I had no idea the lightning could actually cause damage in a block of flats with lightning conductor on the roof until my TV broke down (and the repairman said it must have been the lightning)...
*wondering why thunderstorms are more usual during summer*

Learnt a new English word this morning reading a book - had to look it up in the dictionary - lachrymose...
...I seem to remember some piece in the film 'Amadeus' where they sang 'Lacrimosa' *off to search for title*

Ah yes - it's Mozart's Requiem in D Minor, K. 626!

[Warning! Sarchasm! Moderator/s might want to check this URL extra carefully since the .se implies it's a Swedish site - woe behold - there might be 'foreign' stuff there, with no English translation!]
Actually there is a 'foreign' language there - Latin! Since the original lyrics were written in Latin - and only part of the lyrics have been translated into English - maybe it's an ongoing project...
*sits back, frowning, with arms crossed to await result*

Sorry, I'm just sulking about the current wording in the House Rules, which seems to imply that sites in 'foreign' languages are comparable with offensive and/or illegal URLs:
Only include suitable URLs in your contributions. Links to websites we consider unsuitable will be removed, so if you are considering contributing something that contains a URL, please make sure that it adds value and interest to the subject of your entry, and isn't, for example, purely commercial. Unsuitable sites would include those with racist material, pornographic or sexually explicit material, potentially defamatory material, anything which encourages illegal activities, material which infringes copyright, sites which purely plug or promote commercial products or services without containing material which enhances the subject matter, sites which are in languages other than English, or sites which may offend our users.

Munchkin Posted Jun 24, 2002
Not the best wording it has to be said. Oh, I went to the Eden Project in Cornwall on Saturday as part of the meet. There is an article on it here; A545447 I really ought to read it
Also came back home past Avebury, a tiny English village with enough standing stones to choke a donkey. Its an astounding piece of stone age architecture and the pub was very nice too. Got to play "Spot the Stockbrokers Son"

{[caer csd] Avebury is actually a reconstruction, the village extended into the circle area and a lot of stones had been removed. TO restore it many of the cottages were pulled down. But for all that it is a very atmospheric place and stone ging is an intersting expecience. http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/southtoday/eye/archive/011206.shtml
Haven't been to the Eden project yet, hope to before much longer.}

I deliberately changed it to saying 'Titania - Swede, Finn or sourpuss?' but in Swedish - and got Moderated, as expected
I'll change it once they reword the House Rules or once I stop sulking - whichever comes first....

Fate Amenable To Change Posted Jun 24, 2002
(Been busy for past few days - sisters wedding, my birthday - so have missed several conversations, so will just add my own thoughts generally)
Munchkin - I went to the Eden Project last year, I thought it will look better in a few years time when everything has had a chance to become established, I also was impresseed with the way the hemp plants were the most lush, obviously they are well tended...
Guns - I'm with whoever said that the english cops don't want them becos it will prompt the crims to have them to so they can escape capture. It's like smacking a child - to get the same effect you have to use increasing amounts of force, same with guns, start of with a pistol and the other side will get something bigger and so it will escalte.
Marv - hope you're feeling better soon, the op sounded ghastly.
Black holes - I'm not a scientist, how could you possibly make one in a lab? It'd be like craeting a planet no?
Key: Complain about this post
