re the weight thing. i was stick thin, and then i started to put on a little weight, and then when the other kids told me i was fat, then i kept going, because my fat became my armor. besides, it's easier to eat than to deal with life sometimes....i think a lot of overweight people are using food the way alcoholics use alcohol, or drug addicts use drugs...as a way to numb some emotional part of themselves they don't want to deal with.
that said, i have found that it is easier for me to lose weight when i am not around certain people. their stress becomes my stress, and then it's all downhill from there.
and technology makes it easier. i don't have to grow it, harvest it, grind it, can it, or preserve it in any way. i just go buy it and eat it.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Jun 19, 2002
There's a bug affecting posting. I reported it to Jim last night - but he blamed me and my ISP of course . Now lots of people are reporting it. I think MR has found the bug too .

Nasty, horrible bug like thingy
Anyhoo, your right on the metabolism thing as I know of a family who can eat until the cows come home but don't put on weight. Sadly one of them got ill and had real trouble for a bit, because he had no energy reserves to help him fight. Still I think the average is to be healthy but sensible, but unfortuantely the Western world is slipping from that. I must do exercise I also must read GL's article at some point.

At home today, slight posting problem, hope this comes through.
Last time I was thin, I was deeply depressed and the only thing I felt I could control was my weight, until of course I lost controll over that and got too thin. Now I'm fat but also quite happy. I don't think it's fun to be fat, but it sure beats the alternative! Though a couple of kilos or ten have to come off, or else my knees gives up...
My point is that it's not easy for all and sundry to "just diet and excercise and all your problems goes away". For some it can be pure disaster.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 19, 2002
*the monitor in the library springs to light with a small snap*
Hallo everybody.
I apologise for my protracted absence. First of all, we're in the midst of an unprecedented heat wave and my rental isn't air conditioned; I turn the machines off when it exceeds 85 Fahrenheit. It was up to 88 and some in my office yesterday! The coolth doesn't come till after midnight, so I'm trying to compensate by arising at 5 am, but that's difficult for someone hardwired to stay up at night.
Secondly, my brother has moved here from Virginia Beach, and this has galvanised the house building process. The ditch is dug, the electrician cometh today, the architect submitted elevations via email on Monday night and I've taken them straight to the planning commissioner in order to try and sneak onto the agenda for the meeting on Friday of the Zoning Board...
And there are adjustments that have to be made when you start sharing your digs, adjustments I haven't had to make in 6 years.
Also, I am still kidnapped and therefore am not really here.
But I have read all the backlog and am terribly interested in all the stuff you've been discussing!
Hope to get back on later tonight, or else tomorrow morning. Would you like a new thread? Would somebody like to be Guest Host for the new thread, seeing as I am of course kidnapped?

*waves enthusiastically at the monitor *
*waves enthusiastically at sea* Lots of love for skinny 18 year olds, as long as I don't have to be. I gripe in particular because all Russian women under the age of 30 are, in fact, a size 2 (I am not exaggerating). Which they maintain (until 30) in the teeth of a diet of solid winter stodge, fried food and carbohydrates, smothering everything in mayonaise and sour cream. I don't see them getting much exercise either. As soon as I turn 30 (which is when their lifstyle seems to catch up with them) I shall shut up.
You have no idea what a releif it is to go to Britain/America and find I am not the fattest person my age in the room. Or, in fact, close to being the fattest.

*Waves at Lil, as I ain't here either * Will make more comments later, but I'm tired and lethargic at the mo' for some reason. I think I'll blame the weather for no good reason.

Hullo all.
I know what you mean about removing stress and losing weight, MR. I am so with you on that one.
Oh, and Sol, I'm sure that I've got a few sizes on you, so no worries there.

Morning all, still trying to arrange everything to ready myself for my trip to hospital land. Insurance is sorted, disability is sorted (mostly) and now I am waiting on confirmation of the time away from work that I will have to take for full recovery.

Good morning all. MR, that was a great multiposting , was that to add weight to the disussion?
I'm trying to think of things to say while debugging some software.
