Kat - From H2G2

*As the sticks are swept out from under Kat's hand she follows the action through and brings the bundle back over her head, in the action countering MOWS's unfriendly thwak, passing through Floating Swan and stepping into Cat on Hot-tin Roof. She stands on toes, 'sword' held in both hands.*

Kat - From H2G2

*Kat leaps over Moo as he rolls, springing through the air to land outside the ring of assassins. Bringing the stick in an arc round her body she remains covered at all times, returning to Cat on a Hot-tin Roof at the end*

*puts away the spear and picks up her bundle of sticks*
It's a good plan, there's a couple of us and we can work together
*eyed Kat warily and circled her, moving slightly closer*

*keeping one eye on the floundering group, Kat warily watches Elwyn approach and relaxes her stance in readiness*

*feints to the left to test the reach, holds stick like the spear*
Thank Eda for lessons on swordplay
*resumes fencing position and waits*
*realized Kat wasn't going to attack and was waiting as well, Elwyn gives up defense and rushes to close in space*

My word...

*Kat steps back as Elwyn advances, placing weight behind her left foot and using it to balance her as she parries Elwyn's thrusts, gliding from Water Over Mackerel to Running Willow to Leopard in the Grass, sweating lightly under the exertion*

Where exactly did you say you had come from?

erm
*flushes and stumbles slightly, losing concentration*
nowhere in particular
*emptied her thoughts and refocused the flame and the void*
*glides into black heron rising, lifting her bundle to advance into blue ram front and shifted to a more agressive tactic*
so where do you hail?

*Takes the opportunity of Elwyn stumbling to dance around her and give her a slight flick on the ear*

One does not ask the vice guild-mistress such questions. However perhaps others could learn from your technique.

*Kat ducks as Elwyn advances, aiming her bundle across Elwyn's path in order to flip her over and through*

However, a greater level of concentration, less interest in fantasy books, and greater respect may come in use.

ouch
*leans on her bundle and panted for a while*
how did you find out about the fantasy books, I THOUGHT I hid them well...
*lithely recovers her ground and respect*
*a moment passed*
another bout? that was a great way to flip someone... never saw it coming
*scrowled and then shrugged*
I was fine with concentration 'til you asked me questions, oh well I can try again

*Kat dances casually on her feet, continuing to eye the gathered assassins*

We can try again if you wish. You are lucky that we are using sticks as a sword would have carved you almost in half then. You must be ready for outside distractions when fighting. The life of the assassin is about entering and exiting with the least attention drawn, which means that you must often enter hectic and unknown environments.

*Kat snaps her fingers and from somewhere the sounds of mechanical activity provide a prequel to the appearence of several tennisball machines*

We got these in for target practice a couple of years ago, and to improve my tennis which is surprisingly poor. However, now they should randomly fire around the grounds providing distraction and flying attacks from unknown quarters.

*Kat clicks her fingers again*
Anyone not wanting to participate may wish to step back. Begin
*the tennisball machines let fly and Kat dances around hitting some of the balls away and dodging others. One flies dangerously close to her head and her concentration is swayed momentarily, however she remains fully on guard to Elwyn*

Advance...

*gracefully strode in and regained the void*
my tennis is not bad
*ignored the chaotic fury of tennis balls and smiled at Kat*
I prefere slow-acting poisen. Much more... distreet. This is like when Mat blindfolded me and babbled about some force. I am better with a quarterstaff, there's not many who can beat me. I despise knives.
*deflects a shooting green ball away from her head*
let us begin
smiley - cool

Kat - From H2G2

*Kat glides towards Elwyn, ducking under balls and weaving slightly from side to side, sticks held in two hands. She takes the oportunity of Elwyn's talking to advance at her left before retreating again and standing relaxed, waiting for Elwyn to move*

There will be a poisons test. It is unfortunately the level in which we lose a large proportion of our assassins. It requires skill and concentration, combined with an ordered and methodic mind.

Quarter staffs are well and good except when discretion is needed. They are certainly useful when you are caught in a nasty situation. Many times I have fought back to back with Master Khamsin with nowt but a pole.

Knives are for the close lurkers of the assassins, the hit-men. They are for the crowded street, the theatre corridor, the market square. One can use a knife and be away before anyone is aware that someone is dying.

*Danced into the open region, and practised hound pursue moon several times. Slided into stormy waterfall and relaxed*

*held sticks firmly, one in either hand and explained*

Ambidextrous, it's easier with the left hand

Okay, who else would like a go? I appear to have scared BL off, Elwyn's done hers, albeit with slight drama smiley - smiley, would anyone else like to show off?

*takes out a small notepad of names and makes a scribble next to Elwyn's. Then adds the phrases 'poisons, knife-work, distance marking, escape and evade' to another list*
