This episode is renowned for the final scene when all the boys “go over the top”, which is very moving, but for me personally this episode from the captures everything that is great about Blackadder. From the opening lines re Edmund’s reference to “The Som Public Baths, no running, shouting or piddling in the shallow end” through to George’s concern about “Not wanting to face the German machine gun without his stick” And of course not forgetting Baldrick’s cappuccino!

Half way through the episode takes a subtle mood change. The boys start to reminisce
about the war, which emphasises the tragedies of The Great War, yet still managing to produce a brilliantly funny script.

Classic Blackadder lines include:

BA “We’ve been seating here since Christmas 1914, during which millions of men have died and we have advanced no further than an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping”

George “Our chance to show The Hun that it takes more than a pointy hat and bad breath to defeat the armies of King George”

Baldrick “Shall I do my war poem”: BA “How hurt would you be if I gave the honest answer, no I would rather French kiss a skunk” Baldrick “So would I sir!”

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Not sure what this is doing in Peer Review; it doesn't belong here.

For the record, my favourite was 'Witchfinder Pursuivant" - second favourite 'The foretelling'. smiley - smiley

I have to say Goodbyee always brings a tear to the eye at the end.

I agree that I'm not too sure what this is doing in PR though. Surely this is more of a talking point

Gordon, Ringer of Bells, Keeper of Postal Codes and Maps No One Can Re-fold Properly

I think you want this in Ask H2G2, not Peer Review. smiley - winkeye

(But I have to agree that the last episode was very moving.)

Cheers!

Hmm... This is a case of the BBCi Comedy Team not hitting that little button marked 'Not for Review' before they posted to create this entry.

Would someone with the appropriate tools to do so please remove it from Peer Review?

Also if there is a member of the BBCi Comedy Team passing, it would be a good idea if you went and reset all of the other pages around this 'What's your favourite episode of Blackadder' project to the Not for Review status. It will prevent little accidents like this happening again smiley - smiley

Oh, and my favourite episode? None of them.

Rowan Atkinson is a talentless buffoon who's one joke of 'having a funny face' wore thin nearly a generation ago. And as for Tony Robinson, well he's just New Labour's official Court Jester and deputy chief cheerleader. Need I say more smiley - yuk

I think "not for review" should be the default when creating an article on h2g2.

Ink and Incapability is my favourite , where the dictionary was thrown on the fire by mistake.

There is a link to this article from the BBC Blackadder vote page
http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/blackadder/vote/
so the new researcher may have followed that link.

"Not for review" shouldn't be on by default imho because it should be the norm for people to be writing entries destined for the guide not an exception. Our aim after all is to build the guide.

I have such a strong sense of deja vu here it's unreal. Anyway, mine is 'Potato'. That or 'Amy and Amiability'.

And no, this shouldn't be in Peer Review.

Nor should I be contributing to this thread in this way.

But I have blocked sinuses today and feel like Darth Vader, so there.

We've popped this out of PR now, by the way, but feel free to continue the discussion on the Blackadder page set up by the BBC Comedy Team.

well, ..must be 'The Queen of Spain's Beard',.. I mean, great theme, but for me it wins because of Percy (great McInnerny's performance) and the ..erm, "translator" Don Speakenglish. He was great! (nonono..what..is..*he*..like!) :D
Still, it is true that Beer is a great one as well.

I've recently watched the first series again, and while Beer remains my favourite, The Witchsmeller Pursuivant and The Queen of Spans Beard are both amazing episodes. Particularly liking the bloody milk and the "WILL YOU SHUT UP!" "Silencio!"

That laughter seemed very much spontaneous.
