You should be okay with connections flying BA and Iberia as they belong to an airline alliance called One World:
http://www.oneworldalliance.com/
It's not uncommon to book a BA flight London-Seville and then end up on an Iberia plane. I still think two hours between flights will be fine. Why not contact BA and ask them?
I have no idea about travel insurance as I've never bought it.

>> I'd assumed they'd be bound to get me there at no additional charge if it was a BA flight being late that caused a problem?
I wouldn't assume that. Check it out, and get a reply from them in writing saying that they will. If they will, then everythign is wonderful, but a lot of the cheap tickets are not transferrable or refundable, which is why they are so cheap. I will ask my friends, though I won't be able to do that until tonight.
Fortunately, I can meet you at Heathrow on Wednesday (holding a sign saying "Mother of God" at the Arrivals barrier - what FUN!) and we can do whatever delights you that day.
So, I suggest that perfect arrangement would be if join us on the Gatwick flight the next morning, you have received an offer of a bed for the night! If that doesn't make sense, is there a later flight from either Heathrow or Gatwick on the Wednesday? I can chauffeur you to Gatwick, or we can simply entertain ourselves at Heathrow while you wait for an afternoon flight.
There is one additional factor, which is that I will need to catch up with Z at some point on the Wednesday, but if he can get himself to an appropriate railway station, or into and out of London by train, then that should work.
Travel insurance - it shouldn't be too expensive, but yes, do ckeck it out. It will cover things like cancelled flights, lost or stolen baggage, and check what it does in terms of health insurance. As an American, you don't automatically get free medical care in the UK or Europe. Like all insurance it is a judgement call, but there is no way I'd go intercontinental without insurance.

I've certainly been put on to a later flight when I booked a two stage journey with separate airlines and the first stage was delayed, it was booked as a single journey. However, I am more doubtful about the situation when the flights are booked on separate occasions as separate journeys which just happen to be on the same day.
BA and Iberia being part of the same group will make it much easier, but prod the small print until it squeaks back at you.

I'm going to look into that later-the same-day possibility, ben. I'd overlooked it, and it might be a best-of-all-possible-worlds option.

Cool!
I spoke to my boss about booking holidays, and he said "just book 'em!" So I'll book Monday March 20th to Wednesday April 5th, MoG! My hacienda is yours, darlin'!

Right, since the best cure for post-holiday blues is to book another trip....
I've just booked our flights to Malaga for Wednesday 22nd
We'll probably stay there for a while (Dai's mother used to live there so he knows the area) before getting the train to Seville on the Friday.
Haven't booked return flights as Easyjet's Summer schedule isn't available just yet - so we may be stuck there...
Yippee!

OK, you can list me as possible - Ryanair's fares (if I fly to London and then from there to Sevilla, and same way back) are ridiculously low right now - but the return trip rates aren't available yet...

You're on the 'possibles' list, Titiana. One of the guys living next door is studying guitar at the most prestigious flamenco school in Sevilla so he should know if there is anything interesting going on (flamenco-wise) that weekend.

Ooo... useful neighbour! Yes, I definitely have to take the opportunity to see something Flamenco-ish but not too tourist-ish...

Well, Noggin's sister and brother-in-law were here this week for three days so we got to practice being tour guides and taking them out to several fabulous tapa bars . . . it was quite fun.
Anyhoo, it reminded us about you guys and we started wondering if any more people had made up their minds about coming.

Well, you and blicky can share a pension room for 20 euros a night each, which is quite cheap.
Meanwhile, we now have seven people confirmed. Hope to get a few more.
