Mini-meet in Seville?

Post 1

azahar

Noggin and I are thinking about organising a 'weekend getaway' mini-meet in Seville for sometime next spring. There should be fairly inexpensive flights at that time and there is also a cheap & cheerful pension at the end of our street (20 euros a night per person).

The general idea is that people would come in on Friday evening and we would all go out for tapas (perhaps to two or three different tapa bars).

Saturday could be a 'sightseeing' day (with Noggin and me as tour guides) and in the evening we could meet for dinner and then go out to a local bar. Then Sunday brunch and home again.

We were thinking sometime in March would be best in terms of weather (April is too crazy here because of Semana Santa and the Feria).

So let us know if you are interested, which dates would be best for you, etc. etc . . .

Can't leave them with family, Nyss?

What about dates? I know that blicky and Ferrettbadger are thinking about coming down together sometime Feb/March so they might plan their trip to coincide with this mini-meet once they hear about it. Master B suggested half term, but this is in mid-February and I think the weather would be much more pleasant in March (now watch, it'll p*ss down all that month! smiley - winkeye ). Also, mid-to-late March is usually when the orange trees are in blossom and that really is a lovely thing to experience.

So how about either March 17-19 or 24-26?

No, sorry, that's the 3rd of April we have to be back and the 10th of Februarty we get off - I'll write it out to avoid any confusion in international date notation!

Hmm do you reckon Betis or Sevilla would be at home on said weekend? Always wanted to catch a La Liga match live.

I can certainly find out for you, FB. When blicky was here he and Noggin went out to a university rugby match on Sunday and there had also been a Seville match later in the day that they didn't go to.

Class, you would imagine one or other of them would have a home game.

Hmmmmm.... Wonders off to check rough flight prices....

I expect that like in similar situations in England the teams normally have home matches alternte weekends, so that one or other would normally be playing at home, but not both. I quite enjoy watching footie myself, but I haven't been to a match here yet - might be fun.

FB, I think most of the La Liga games are played on Sunday evening (will check) - as it seems you and blicky would be here for more than just a weekend anyhow, you could easily go off to that after everyone else had gone home.

Oh, this is feeling more than somewhat exciting!

The other thing is that eating and drinking out here is DEAD CHEAP - certainly compared to the UK. Just ask Blues and SLG. As long as they don't want to drag us to the local Irish pub, where drinks cost almost twice as much as everywhere else! smiley - winkeye

Apparently that Scottish pub also offers a wide selection of cigars, including Cuban. Have never been there myself.

But yeah, you come to Seville for a weekend and want to go to Irish or Scottish pubs??? Pah on that one! (even if you were kidding, ya never know with you, Blues . . .)

I have a nice selection of tapa bars in mind for the first evening - a bit of 'tapearing' here and there. The second night I thought we could have a proper 'sit down' meal at the Bar Giralda (and I'd book tables) before we went off for drinks afterwards.

Sunday brunch would depend on the weather. If it's nice and sunny we could go to a place with a lovely outdoor terrace - if not we could go to the 'breakfast bar' and put a few tables together downstairs (don't like the upstairs).

Meanwhile, there could actually be more than just one mini-meet here, for the teachery-types who'd prefer a February weekend away during half term.

I mean, how many people usually end up going to mini-meets? Ten maybe twelve? Or even less? I have no idea. But really, even with half a dozen people we could have quite a good time, I think.

Well, I think I will have to book the rooms at the cheap & cheerful place by Christmas. Just to ensure they'll have rooms free - it's a very popular place to stay as it is the absoluteliest cheapest place to stay in the absolute centre of Seville (and bathrooms are not 'ensuite'). But it's very clean and also quite charming, in a charmingly rustic sort of way.

Meanwhile, for anyone who would prefer to stay (and pay) for something a bit more posh, I can also arrange that.

Hey, this is fun! And if there is anything I enjoy it's being able to show off my beautiful Sevilla to visiting friends. smiley - smiley
