Mini-meet in Seville?
Matholwch - Brythonic Tribal Polytheist Posted Aug 14, 2005
Hi Azzie
At the risk of driving away everyone else, my good lady and I are seriously looking into this. We had hoped to get to Seville earlier than this and see you two, but vitae interruptus.
Blessings,

Mini-meet in Seville?
azahar Posted Aug 14, 2005
Noggin and I have started doing daily 'fast walks' and we alternate from walking in a nearby park or down by the river. Today we took some photos of our 'river walk' from start to finish, so if you'd like to see a bit more of Sevilla check out photos 67-102

This meet will be called the Seville Orange won't it? Much like the Bradford Brocolli

Z Posted Aug 14, 2005
Er the northern meets tend to be named after vegatables, for instance the Bradford Brocholi and the Manchester Spring Onion, so naturally this ´should be the Seville Orange.

Um, yes, *naturally* . . .
Btw, I need to ask vegetarians like you, Z, and Matholwch (and whoever else) if you also eat fish or seafood so I can organise which tapas places to go to as a group. If fish and seafood are possible then most places will be fine. If not, then I'll have to make sure the places we go to have enough vegetarian options.
Re-thinking the 'planning' for the weekend, I've thought that perhaps after everyone arrives on Friday evening, that would be a better time for a comfortable sit-down meal together (rather than wandering around to various tapa bars) to allow everyone time to relax and get to know each other a bit. Then Saturday can be the 'official mini-meet day' with the sightseeing stuff during the day and tapas and flamenco in the evening. After lunch we can all have a bit of a break if people want to go back to their pension/hotel to have a siesta or else explore the city (and maybe do some shopping) on their own. And then meet up again around 8pm for tapas.
Sunday brunch will be organised for anyone who wants to come. I am thinking that the 'infamous' Irish pub might be a good place to have the brunch as I can book tables there - and by then you all may have had your fill of 'typical Spanish food'. They do a 'full Irish breakfast' there (which might be required by some, depending on how late you stay out on Saturday night). And they also have vegetarian food options.
Anyhow, still plenty of time to work out the details. As I say, I don't want to 'organise you all to death' but if I have a few things organised that people can choose to either join in on or not, that seems the best thing to do. And of course if anyone has suggestions for what they'd like to do here, just let me know.
Noggin and I are at your service.

The organising of optional events sounds the perfect approach, Az.
Z is very accommodating but he doesn't eat fish or shellfish either. On the other hand, I have seen him happily eat chips and curry sauce if that was the only 'vegetarian option' in a chip-shop, and he'll happily order 'sunday roast without the roast' or 'a full english without the saussage or bacon, please'.
I know tapas don't work like that, but if there is enough (in terms of volume) even if it is only a choice of beans in olive oil, or beans in olive oil, or beans in olive oil, he'll be fine.

Does Z eat eggs? Almost all tapa bars do a great potato omelette, and also spinach with chickpeas. As well as grilled mushrooms, and some have nice aubergine topped with cheese (does he eat cheese?).
Also, for the times you two are off together doing your own thing, I can recommend a good vegetarian restaurant as well as a nice Italian place (for fab pizza or pasta and rocket salad).
Gosh, this is fun, innit?

I'd be one more for the vegetarian camp; I'll eat meat in a pinch, but I don't like the taste - and fish is even worse!

Hi Azahar and all,
I just popped over from the Atelier to say that I'm interested in this, but I am not capable of planning this far ahead, so I don't know if I'll be able to make it or not.

hi Bagpuss,
Well, there is no 'cut off date' other than if it's left too late I may not be able to find room at the cheap & cheerful pension just down the street.
Some people have chosen to book flights very early to guarantee a good price, but if you happen to show up last minute, that will also be quite okay. I'll do my best to find reasonably priced accommodation for you, but it may be a bit more expensive.
I think I would need to know the final number of people coming by the beginning of March so I could book tables for our group get-togethers.

How soon are they likely to be booked up, Az? If I can't get a spot then it's my fault for lack of organisation, but I really can't promise to be coming this early.

I'm really not a very fussy vegatarian, please don't make special arrangements on my account. I have never *ever* not been able to eat in a resturant because they didn't have anything vegatarian. And that includes resturants in Paris, Poland, Italy and Greece, not all places with a vegatarian option. If it means I just eat bread and olives then I just eat bread an olives. Or just cheese and bread or just a salad, or just vegatables and potatos.
I'm really very easy to feed.
Also I only preach on h2g2!
Oh and yes I do eat eggs. But don't go their on my account.
Ok I once asked if we could go to another pub because I didn't fancy the

Az, I am planning to come over and hope to visit London as well. That is to say I am planning but I haven't budgeted for it yet and aren't likely to start right away since this year's vacation starts tomorrow. $¢£
btw, through ingenious detective work I found your name on Skype. I'm clzoomer so give me a call sometime!

Malabarista, I have no idea about camping places. I kind of think they don't exist near Seville (though I've seen some on the coast).
Bagpuss, I will start booking rooms for people at the pension as soon as they have booked their flight. Not sure if they are going to require a deposit or credit card number, but I'll pop over there today to book Ben and Z's room and will let you (and them) know if they do. I would think that booking by Christmas should be fine. Well, unless the whole place gets booked by h2g2 researchers before then! (there are only 12 rooms at this place, with two or three beds in them).
Z, you will be able to find cheese, olives and bread everywhere! And as I say, usually also tortilla (potato omelette), spinach, pisto (a kind of ratatouille), so I think you'll be okay too. Meanwhile, don't leave us in suspense . . . because you didn't fancy the what???
zoomer (or should I call you Sherlock?) I have added you to my Skype list. And I'm very pleased to hear you're coming to the meet.

Zoomer's coming to the meet?
There are people you see around the site and think you'll never get a chance to meet because of geographical features like large oceans getting in the way.
Great news.

Right, we've got out the star charts, consulted the oracles and sacrificed a chicken after fasting for four days.
And that's the one weekend we can't do. Sorry.
