Roo, I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from a lack of Chinese takeaways in your vicinity. No1 son has a Chinese chippy just down the road and there are 2 others in the town. There are hardly any shops open at all in his part of the Welsh Valleys, but at least he can get spring rolls and sweet and sour sauce with his haddock and chips!
Perhaps we could post you some

My nearest Chineese is a 20 min drive away Indian and Chippie only about 3 miles away! We used to be able to get great food in the local - until it burnt down Now nowhere to eat or drink in walking distance

Indian is about 3 minutes walk away, we have 2 pubs but neither are very nice, so we tend to drive out to one of the villages. Which is what most of Guildford does, so those pubs get very crowded.
We don't have a Chinese locally, we drive about 10 minutes to the best one.
The greatest curse is no longer having a Tex-Mex restaurant in the area.

I can see why that would be bad - but at the moment I would settle for getting a pub back. They are saying it will take a year to 18 months to rebuild the one that burnt down - thats a long time with no pub in walking distance

How did it burn down?
One of our locals is undergoing a renovation, so perhaps it will be a more salubrious place. It used to be thick with cigarette smoke and full of really noisy lads!

it was a beautiful old listed thatched building and they had a chimney fire . We were in fact very lucky not to loose some of the cottages next door. 12 fire engines, mobile incident unit, ambulances, police closing the road etc - we had the works! Luckliy no one was hurt.

Good grief, sounds horrendous. I hope they are doing the rebuilding sympathetically and you don't get stuck with a modern eye sore.

Its a bit soon to twll, but my understanding is that it will have to be restored in the same style as before. The centre of the village (where the pub site is) is also a conservation area so will have to be in keeping at least

Hey, wow, everyone is talking about food! Well, I used to live right nexy door to a bakery, a Chinese and an Indian, which is why it took me 17 years to leave.. Now I live right next door to a Ministry of Justice and an American Embassy... which I guess makes my place either one of the safest or the most dangerous on the planet.. but going out for food is interesting, I never knew there were so many different types of gun. Still, I can get any kind of patisserie I want, plus hot dogs, Sarmala and Bursch. Yum yum.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Mar 24, 2002
Hay, full glasses of Takeaway food is great, we've a chippy a short walk, and pizza, chinese, indian, kabab, a phone call and free dilivery away Of course, when I'm back in Cambridge, the front door next to mine, leads me into an italian, and the door next to that into a greesy sppon/indian, respectivily during the day and in the evening.... over the road from the greesy spoon/indian, is a chinese, that also does the most amazing fish and chips and then the pub the bakery is a long walk away though at least five mins from my front door, so sometimes its just so tempting to say "the bread can take care of itself", and do a two minute woddle to the pub If i can make it: during the day, I've got to pass the greesy spoon/indian italian, and whats more, a guitar shop, just too tempting....

Welcome back, Light and Pod!
There's a good Chinese restaurant within
easy walking distance. I always eat inside,
because the staff is so friendly.
Someone in another thread mentioned biryani the
other day, so I thought I would make some. I
changed my mind, though, and made paella instead.
(I use brown rice for all rice recipes, by the way.
The white stuff is too gummy for my taste .)

Crisy Beef with Sweet Chilli sauce and a portion of special fried rice, please.
If they have crispy coated bananas for dessert, would you add that to my order too? Thank you
