"So...what is property for again? And why should there be rights in relation to it? Please...remind me."
Property, time, what I work for, these being my rights, is what keeps me from being a slave. Right now, if I work 40 hrs a week and get taxed 20%, 8 hours out of every week I am a slave.

"When do you think a foetus becomes a seperate person, approximately?
It's certainly before birth, but how long before birth? A month, two months? When the child could live unassisted if an emergency birth was forced? When the child could be kept alive using all possible medical intervention to force it to live? At conception?"
Obviously, if your premise is that a fetus is not a life, then ending the growth of the non-living but growing thing is totally fine. I personally do not know when to consider it alive. Why would it not be alive at 2 weeks, but be alive at 2 months? I think one should go to prison for blowing up a building that might not have people in it, but we will never know. Randomly throwing grenades into other yards, without knowing if they kill someone, is still an obvious threat to someone elses right to life.
So is ending the growth of a not-yet-determined-to-be-alive-or-not-human-thing.

I've just read posts 1 to 420 in one sitting. Man I don't recommend that. Without reading the following 400+ posts, I'm going to suggest that the one that nails it so far for me is one from 2legs. Yes, the flippant guy. Post 328.
Oh, 2legs, don't you dare turn on your spell-checker(apologies if that point has been made 4387 times before).
New guy.

I've now got into the 590's. One phrase has been used a couple of times by someone who I have completely agreed with up to this point. He or she says "respect has to be earned". No. Disrespect* has to be earned. We should treat people with respect as a default position. They gotta prove themselves worthy of contempt.

Thanks and what a lovely welcome. (Actually it's "hear hear". Pedant.)

I'm somewhere in the mid 600's now. Can anyone tell me if it's worth carrying on?

I mean that in relation to this conversation, not as any sort of existential cry for help.

I'm at the bit where Iluvatar (sp?) keeps on about the government stealing his money, and I keep wondering when someone's going to ask him what the hell makes him think it's all his money in the first place. Do they? No, don't tell me. It'll spoil the excitement.

I thought it was 'hear hear' (Honestly, I was pretty sure), but I thought I'd see what kind of response 'Here Here' would get. Looking to be treated with contempt by the contemptible, I guess.

Thanks either way. I'll accept a "here here" and be damn proud of it.
