The stupid "piano movers" Stella Artois 4 Advert where the guy chases the piano then totally screws the whole basis that the advert is "French" by saying "Un Stella Artois Four, sil vous plait? Un, deux, trois, quatre".

So he knows the French for the number four as he clearly says it during the counting sequence but he calls the beer by the English number 4?

Its just mind staggeringly stupid & pointless & idiotic.

This is strange, I thought that Stella is Belgian. As long as Belgium still exists anyway

But if you want to convey Frenchness, putting random pieces of English inbetween along with more or less successfull translations would be the way to go:

Un Stella Artois Four*, sil vous plait?

* quatre

Surely since it's their product, they can call it what they like. If they want to mix languages then hey ho. It's hardly stupid, it's just what they've chosen. I would imagine they are aware of the french for four.



Burger King appear to have an advert at the moment that seems to be saying that a BK meal is like crack or heroin. It's calling you, you can't resist, that old man keeps a knockin...

Furthermore, are they aware that their 'burger king' man looks rather scary and sinister to this 39 year old adult. Do they really want to be scaring kids?

Oh, and my current annoying advert is for Stella Artois 4. Its not all the stupid teleportation crap that happens between truck & sports car. Its that he asks for a Stella Artois Four then says please IN FRENCH.

Why? The bar guy understood Stella Artois Four in English. Either ask him all in French (for a Stella Artois Quatre) or ask him all in English.

Actually it is perfectly good French: it means "A Stella Artois oven". Or "A Stella Artois flop", I'm not sure.

in France they call it "Le Big Mac"

Lueven, where the Stella Brewery is is very much in Dutch Speaking Flanders, rather than French Speaking Wallonia... I guess they advertisers don't think dutch has quite the same pull in an advert!
