I have a certain sympathy for the Gocompare guy (while he's not actually on my screen) because he's apparently a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend. They say he's actually a classically trained professional tenor, but he gets paid thousands for each advert. Given the generally mercenary nature of the music performance industry, who among us wouldn't take that?
Also, don't take out the Moneysupermarket guy, that's Omid Djalili! When not appearing in stupid adverts, he does really funny stand-up comedy.
Go ahead and nuke the dog though.

Does he know Kevin Bacon?

If you look very carefully you can probably see that he IS Kevin Bacon.

The new Land Rover, its main selling point is it "analyses the road 500 times every second".
Why is that useful? Your not going to go very far in 1 second so the terrain isn't going to have changed very much is it?

I just saw an ad for a shampoo that´s been "salon proven" to work as well as professional brands. They even have the words "salon proven" on the bottle.

I don't know if this one's been brought up, but I have to mention it anyway.
"We believe that your underarm skin has three fundamental rights."
Oh for sake, just stop it already.

I suppose the right to bare arms is one of them.

That 'salon proven' baloney in tresemme adverts* really gets my goat. I'm not experienced in the hair care business but my experience of other businesses is that they use the cheapest tat they can get away with otherwise their profit margins suffer.
*Yes it must have worked as I know the brand name easily. Never bought any though

I've only ever been in one salon where they used Tresemme. The rest use professional quality products what I can get on the cheap due to my sis being a hairdresser

Deb Posted Aug 2, 2010
I'm using Tresemme at the moment, and am on my second bottle. I tend to experiment a bit as I use thickening shampoo and it does seem to work better than ones I've tried in the past, and it's cheap, so I'm happy. But I didn't buy it due to advertising, it was just the next one in line on the shelf.

Penelope Cruz advertises something to do with hair.
Can't think what it is but I thank them for putting Penelope on my screen.

I'd just like to report that in NZ they show the Lynx advert on TV - that's usually only shown in cinemas in the UK, AFAIK. It involves hundreds of bikini-clad women running towards a man spraying himself with Lynx.
Great advert. Still not buying Lynx, though.

We have a similar-sounding ad for SpecSavers. Bikini-clad women run towards a man on a beach who's spraying himself with some product or other. They all turn away when he puts his glasses on.
No, it doesn't make me want to go to SpecSavers. None of their ads do. Every time I've looked at frames in there, they've been rubbish.

Yeah, the Specsavers ad is a direct reference to the Lynx one. What are we coming to when adverts reference other adverts?

Love the SpecSavers ad where the shepherd shears the collie. The look on the faces of the dog and the sheep is priceless.

The Specsavers ads are fantastic. My current favourite is the one for hearing aids
RF, the Lynx advert was shown on telly as well as at the cinema
