Fear2 is pretty much a FPS, uberduff; no puzzles to solve, just keep shooting
anything that comes your way.
Plays on Xbox and Ps3 as far as I know.
Graphics are good and so is the AI up to a point;
I've had the enemy blow themselves up with their own grenades more
than once.
It looks like being a short game though, so far I've spent about eight to ten hours
and I'm close to the end.

I keep coming back to Civilization: Call to Power. Anything beyond the lowest level is too difficult for me, and the other civilizations keep doing incredibly annoying things (why do you have a problem with me trespassing when you break every single treaty I make on it THE VERY NEXT TURN!) but no other empire-building game has grabbed me as much with its nurturability.

If there's bugs in that, it takes more than downloading a patch to fix it.

My current game is Worms 4 for PS2.

How can you get better than a game that has Alien Abduction and Inflateable Scouser as weapons options?

Is that 3D? I played earlier Worms games quite a bit but, on the couple of occasions I've tried a more recent 3D version, I couldn't wrap my head around it. So to speak.

Yes, Worms 4 is in 3D. It does take a bit of getting used to (and takes nearly all the fun out of the concrete donkey), but I think it's worth the effort.

Robyn...

In Hogs of War, can you nail an enemy to the floor, then drown them with global warming? If not, it's not better tham Worms. smiley - tongueout

It's voiced by Rik Mayall, is based on WWII and has such team names as 'Piggystroika'... And it's so old now (PS1 game) that it cant stand up to Worms directly, but if it were to have a sequel made, if one extrapolates the humour involved in the first as well as the *at the time* superior gameplay (imo), it would rock Worms' very foundations.

Incidentally, I used to have a regular Worms: Forts tournament with a couple of mates of mine. Works best with two of you with two forts each or with four of you. Three tends to be a little unfair... But it's good for a laugh so long as you promise not to hit each other!

I can't help but mourn that there were no more Duke Nukem made.
Rumours abounded but nothing ever came of them.

I think FEAR 2 has online gaming as well but I haven't really checked it
out.
I live too far from the exchange so my line speed is pretty crap.
I tried playing Resistance online but I was wiped out before I even got moving, since then I haven't bothered.

Anyone got hold of the new Silent Hill?

Mister Matty

It's a bit of a mystery what became of the Duke Nukem series. About ten years ago plans were announced for a new title called "Duke Nukem Forever" and since then there's been nothing but the occasional re-assurance that the project hasn't been abandoned. My guess is that whoever holds the IP rights these days isn't bothering to develop the thing but reluctant to announce it as cancelled just in case a gap appears that would allow it to be greenlit again.

As for "Worms", I pretty-much gave up on that series when they moved it to 3D in an attempt to follow gaming fashions, doing away with much of what made the series work in the first place. The best version for me remains "Worms Armageddon" which you can pick up for about a pound these days.

Currently playing Dawn of War 2, which I am enjoying but not very far through. It seems to require both Steam and Games for Windows Live simultaneously even to play single player, which is a big ask of my currently flaky internet connection.

Also currently playing Team Fortress 2, TribesNext, and the Demigod beta.

I think Zagreb hit the nail on the head with the Oblivion versus Morrowind thing. Most of the 'simplifications' in Oblivion are really genuinely good gameplay and user interface improvements, and a lot of the writing remains really good. Somehow the world isn't quite as magic as Morrowind though.

The Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion is really really strange in a very good way though.
