So the government proposes to tell clothes shops what they can and can't sell? Ye gods. It's a step backwards for the free market and personal liberty.

Xanatic,
"But it is difficult to be happy about your size when you get hurtful comments from other people."
Indeed. Hence why there should be more of an attitude shift from both parties; people shouldn't make those comments; and those who are at the receiving end should quite frankly tell the other people where to stick it. Of course, there are self-confidence issues to look at here, but a boost in self-confidence away from an internet message board may be more advantagous.
"And I think overweight people do still get more stick about their weight than stick people get..., well you get the picture."
I'm not so sure actually. Certainly overweight people are castigated more publically, but 'stick people' are probably castigated more with more subtlety --- or at the least, that's what I've observed.

There's too many 'mores' in my post up there. Bah.

Well I've told people off for both sorts of comments
Xan, I saw that news piece too, think it was somewhere in south america but can't seem to find the story. It was along the lines that the fact that the clothing stores only sold clothes up to a particular size and not larger was causing eating disorders in young women or something. Will keep looking to see if I can find it.

Any skinny people out there who feel like joining me in a class action lawsuit against companies that only sell low-fat products?

Xanatic,
I'd join you not for the low-fatness of it, but that they taste of nothing

That I don't think you can change. Unless you just add some E-number flavouring. It is just annoying buying food and having to roam around for a long time to find something that isn't low fat.

Xanatic,
You're right. They do taste pretty horrid. We need, much like the Campaign for Real Ale, a Campaign for Real Food.

Honestly, it strikes me that there must be a false causality here. Are clothing stores really so powerful? I have to think that reacting in such an extreme manner shows there are other issues at play. People do have choices in how they react to situations. Which is the better reaction?
1) Bulemia
2) Anorexia
3) A shrug, and a stroll to the next store.

Blathers, I wouldn't take my wording too litterally as I can't quite remember exactly what was said and until somebody manages to find a link to the story there isn't any point getting all ranty about it...

Well this was quite ranty
I think the story was on the bbc a day or so ago but can't find a link now...

"Argentina's clothes shops 'think big'
A new law is being introduced in Argentina, which aims to force clothes shops to display and sell bigger sizes."
This from the BBC but it was for an audio/visual story that obviously wasn't written up for news online
