This is a challenge. A while ago in Ask (I'm almost certain it was Ask, anyway), there was a surreal conversation about a device. All participents were careful not to name the device, or to be too specific about its uses, but they were free in their opinions of which versions were best. The limited edition chrome handled ones were especially prized, if I remember correctly.

Was it the one where they reckoned the Mark III was a better balanced model than the Japanese-produced Mark IV?

I think we'll need conversation <./>search</.> for this one. I'm sure I remember coelecanth saying that they do turn it on occasionally.

The in-house search has always been horrendously slow
Google is always faster:
Results 1 - 6 of 6 from www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2 for "where's that thread". (0.17 seconds)

I'm sure I remember reading, though, that conversations are not searched by search engines. And indeed, all those Google results are from people's conversation lists on their personal spaces. This conversation, where the phrase occurs twenty times on each page, is not found by Google.

In the html
A-pages have
Threads have
The reason/excuse is that reducing the load on the Beeb's servers is more important than usability/functionality
