Surely it *cannot* be that Hoo was banned but Apple wasn't.

Why, could the eds not say to people first:-

Look this really is it, if anyone else posts anything about this then it will be a ban?

Why let it fester for 18 months and then without any visible pre comment. Or a serious onsite attempt to deal with it start issuing bans?

Editors I really think you owe us some comment on this.

1) Hoo wasn't banned -- he was *temporarily banned* from the site for one month, and has said that he won't post again. Of course, I seem to remember him saying that before, but that's another matter.

2) There's a pretty clear transgressions procedures that the eds follow. In fact, Hoo himself helped develop it -- A642296. I suggest you become familiar with it before complaining that there's no rhyme or reason behind what goes on.

3) People need to be aware that, in most cases, there is a lot stuff that goes on before any kind of ban (again, see the Transgressions Procedures for details). Just because you, personally, have not been privy to such goings on doesn't mean they haven't happened.

Yes, he did -- but he was not the only person involved in the process of developing and refining them from start to finish.

I guess it depends on your perspective. I merely pointed it out for the edification of those who keep protesting that poor Hoo was somehow blindsided by this out of the blue, without warning or just cause.

Mikey, I don't see how it could be said that Hoo was blindsided. What can be said, however, is that there are others who should have been dealt with more forcefully before now. I think that's the point.

Can we have some kind of confirmation that (a) Hoo has had his account suspended for a month, and (b) that Apple is on premod?

Hoo's PS U114627 doesn't show anything about suspension.

Apple/Della seems to be posting in real time (although it's hard to tell).

Post F19585?thread=606523&post=7070453#p7072245 , in this thread, which apparently contained the 'news' about Hoo and Della/Apple has been removed and is awaiting moderation.

Yes, Ivan - she is currently posting as Flora Light U729416 , which I believe contravenes the House Rules. What is the point of putting a researcher on pre-mod if they are just going to post from another account?

Is that post, from Hoo, the only source of the idea that Hoo has been banned and Della put on premod?

It said that Hoo was banned for admitting that some of the 'recipes' he had entries on could actually cause explosions. Also, that if he was pre-modded he would show them that he would get round it easily enough. I don't think it was for anything to do with...erm, the subject of this thread. Or anything directly to do with her.

I'd suggest yikesing anything posted from Apple's other account/s, and include a note to the mods that she is on pre-mod under the original account and is circumventing that. If necessary, ask them to refer it to the italics.

Several days ago Hoo posted a very explicit intention that if he was put on Premod he would do everything he could to 'break' the moderation system, and that last time it took him only 48 hours.

That post has been removed.

Then 8 hours ago, Hoo posts again saying that he has been 'temporarily banned'? because of what he said in the post several days ago.

That post has also been removed but modertion is still pending.

And there is no other indication that Hoo has been suspended, including notice on his PS (which I thought was the norm)?

btw, h2 is running *very* slow at this end, so I'm probably going to be out of synch for a while.

Post 795 summarizes Hoo's boasts quite well. Earlier, he appeared in this thread, under a name created today, to say that he was banned for a month. (Look back two frames or so, ... the post immediately preceding Azahar's astounded speechless )

By the rules that Hoo himself defined in 2001, by posting under another name, he has boosted himself from the one-month ban to the next level. Lifetime ban.

For such a clever mind, with so much to offer, it IS a shame that his own arrogance was his ultimate undoing on this site.

(Until he returns under other names, of course ...)
