It could be the first number one they've refused to play since Frankie Goes to Hollywood if I've got it right.
Getting that to number one is a bit too juvenile for my tastes personally but I can see the funny side too.

Freedom of speech until it clashes with state ideology. The ideology from Westminster is that Margaret Thatcher "saved" Britain.

I'm with this being played.
If you're going to do the chart show, do it. If you don't agree with it, tough.
If they do decide to not play it, then they'd blooming well better be prepared to state proper and full reasons why they won't play it, or I will also be cancelling my TV license because there's not enough on telly I actually watch to justify it if I lose faith in the organisation.

>>Blair is particulary disapproving, s'pect he worrying about his place in the history books and wondering how many are going the flags out when he pops his clogs<<
Blair's got good reason to be worried. At least Thatcher only has the left popping champagne at her demise, Blair will have *everyone* doing it.

Why (and what song) did the BBC not play Frankie goes to Hollywood?

Frankie Goes to Holywood: Relax.
Purely because of the heavy homosexual overtones.

And I never saw it as homosexual overtones, just sexual overtones.

OK, this story has not one but two irresistible hooks:
1. Frikkin ships with frikkin LAYZERS!
2. The ship chosen to be the first to house this experimental and entirely sci-fi sounding weapon? The USS Ponce. Priceless.

Sadly the USS Ponce is not pronounced as you might expect - or so I've read elsewhere.
It is a remarkable name nevertheless <ok.

Now laser beams have become mainstream weapons, should we call them phasers?

How is Ponce pronounced then?

Pink Paisley Posted Apr 11, 2013
If it is pronounced as the Puerto Rican city - which I suspect it is, then it is 'pon-say'.

More so even than is usual for ships of any navy, one would surely be forced to greet any member of the crew of the Ponce with the words "Hello, sailor!"
