The proper respect to Jim Henson smiley - pony?

I'm down with that being flogged a fair bit more. His genius is rarely properly acknowledged!

Again, my apologies for forgetting the main thrust
of this thread and derailing it with my own ongoing
struggles with concepts about reincarnation. Perhaps
we can carry on that discussion elsewhere...

Meanwhile, back at the Newsdesk:

There is a volcano erupting in Russia that is on a
scale worthy of end-o-the-whirled proportions with
a 5km crack opening up in the earth's crust.

I'll be glad when all the rubbish about the Mayan calendar comes to an end...it shows the idiotic mind set of people (not you swl obviously) who just can't see it's simply the maths of the calendar that is making it finish.

Luckily, I've not met anyone personally who has spoken about the impending end of the world as I'd slap them so hard they would end up in next year just to prove my point.

Jeez. Me too.

I've just come home from a particularly difficult day at work during which I spent more than 8 hours 'sectioning' a guy who was convinced that the world ends tomorrow. He's been neglecting himself badly and has been obsessed with news items about war, floods, Saville - you name it, as evidence that it is all falling to bits and tomorrow is the last day.

I've had a really crappy day. He's had a way worse one. I'm at home - he's in hospital.

I'm hoping desperately that he makes a rapid recovery over the weekend.

And what if he's right? I've really cocked up!

"The UK ambassador to Argentina has been summoned to explain to officials in Buenos Aires why part of Antarctica has been renamed in honour of the Queen. John Freeman was handed a formal protest note "strongly rejecting" the UK's claim to a piece of land known as the British Antarctic Territory."

"Patricia Stein, a Lakota from South Dakota, attached an Idle No More sign to the wall of the Canadian embassy in Cairo on Friday morning.

It then moved to London, where a handful of people also rallied in support of Idle No More.

And as the sun rose across the Atlantic, the hashtag #idlenomore began to flash with increasing speed across Twitter. . . ."

I was part of a crowd of hundreds of First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Settler people who spent hours marching shoulder to shoulder and chanting in windy -20 C weather demanding that Canada's founding documents finally be honoured by the government.

You might want to keep an eye on this. It might get interesting.smiley - smiley

This seems to pretty well sum up what Xmas has become and one of the things that has just plain killed it off to my mind.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20834860

Retailers are selling just about enough. Xmas has now become a shoppingfest and if they don't it is declared a failure.

Having it all laid out like that makes it even more disgusting than I imagined, and I'm not just talking about the 52 million Brussels sprouts.

I've been very clear to friends, family, acquaintances: Next year, I'll give to charity; if you're thinking of giving to me, find a charity yourself. Christmas is off!
