Mol - on the new tablet

We saw 'She's the Man' on TV - modern version of Twelfth Night - really enjoyed it. Osh (13 next month) found it very tense - seriously, he was hiding behind a cushion when it looked like it was all going to go wrong. But it was a really good film for all the family.

I did stay for the final credits. Mirren was very good. I can't even imagine how awful it was for people who were caught in the War like that.

Jurassic World.

My daughter's choice (she's 32 today).

I grinned and bore it. Like Dad's do.

Plot holes and unremitting 'Raaaaaargh'. Run. 'Raaaaaaargh'. Run. Raaaargh'. Run.

Felt like it was 4 hours long.

We saw "Insurgent" yesterday - much like the first film which my partner thought he'd seen but he couldn't remember and I'm afraid it all went over his head. I enjoyed it. It was like a cross between Hunger Games and The Matrix.

We're going to see the new Terminator film in 3D today. Only problem is, I've seen the originals, (1&2 many times), but my partner hasn't. So the final opinions may be considerably differentsmiley - yikes

We've just been watching the Hobbit films. The conclusion was they were about two films too long.

I totally agree, Pastey. smiley - smiley

And yet, and yet.....

Dustin Hoffman says that television is the best it's been in 50 years, but movies are the worst. If you're on a flat plain, even a short mountain may still look tall. Are you really going to not appreciate it in the absence of anything taller? If you don't have a lot of other options, why make yourself more miserable than is necessary? {I mean that in the philosophical sense. I know that you're very sensible and discerning. smiley - smiley]

I do agree though, television is producing some cracking shows at the moment!

We saw the new Terminator film in 3D yesterday afternoon. We had our choice of rows of seats, there must have been less than ten attendees.

We both enjoyed the film - Ian lost the plot very early on as he didn't have a clue what was going on but he enjoyed the action. There were parts where I laughed out loud but I also found it confusing with the to-ing and fro-ing between timelines. The ending was also extremely confusing but I don't want to give away the ending so questions on my PS please.

Last night we watched Danny Collins. I had no idea what to expect but Al Pacino is brilliant as a jaded singer constantly rechurning out old hits at his concerts. He's wealthy, has a fiancé half his age, a super car, fame, adulation, all the booze & drugs he wants... yet his life is empty. He has an epiphany (in 2014) when he discovers John Lennon wrote to him care of a magazine he'd given an interview to in 1971 but Lennon's letter was never forwarded to his address. (Someone else sold it to a dealer.) The film revolves around this letter and what it meant to him, how his life would have turned out differently if he'd only received it at the time. The singer attempts to repair a past wrong and find a family, but the road to trust, love and finally acceptance is fraught with difficulty. "Danny Collins" is based n a true story, the letter really exists. The soundtrack has multiple Lennon tracks which we enjoyed immensely, both of us being Beatles fans. Lennon fans will love this. Great date movie for non-Lennon fans! Highly recommended.

I'm a Beatles fan, too. They had an enviable blend, superb songwriting skills, and a good sense of how to entertain smiley - ok. "Danny Collins" was a treat.

Sorry, TC.smiley - sadface Movie scheduling seems arbitrary and even random.

Last nght I saw "Max," a film about a military dog in Afghanistan who went berserk after his soldier companion was killed. The dog would only bond with the dead soldier's younger brother, so he adopted the dog.

We saw "The Age of Adaline" yesterday. Listed as drama/romance, there was an element of fantasy crucial to the story. The audience is let in on her secret from the beginning but the futuristic talk had me confused. I did guess the twist, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment. It's a marvellous film, the heroine is totally believable and we were both riveted. We only knew one actor (Harrison Ford) the rest were all new to us. The scene with the poorly dog will smiley - brokenheart and there wasn't a dry eye in the house at other scenes. I won't say any more as I don't want to spoil any of it. When I popped to the loo afterwards several of the other attendees were chatting about the film and saying how much they had enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

"Minions" was stupid, and making it was even stupider. Why would audiences pay good money to watch extras wander around the screen for most of two hours? They wouldn't! Scarlet Overkill and the Queen of England were the only reasons to stick around, but why were they given as little screen time as they got? You should place your most promising characters in the most prominent position possible.

I saw "Ant Man" Saturday night and thought it was pretty good, if way beyond improbable.

Oh, how opinions vary.

I went to see Minions and thought that it was funny and that the minions were the stars. Scarlet Overkill? Well without her there wouldn't have been a story, but a bit of a naff character.
