I just watched Deja Vu, a movie that once again shows the incredible range of Denzel Washington. I was hoping for some twists or interesting time travel stuff but it was really a very mundane movie.

I loved Denzel Washington in that. I seem to remember that the end was a bit of a let-down.

Saw Skyfall at the IMAX in Newcastle last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The digital sound was ace - especially at the more dramatic effects. Loads of wee touches through the film that I enjoyed - the second you saw that hatstand you just knew

I haven’t seen it yet but I do have a Skyfall story.
Last spring I was up in the Sound of Jura, Scotland fishing with some friends. One morning we set off on our kayaks from the front of the cottage we were renting out into Crinan Loch.

After paddling out for a while I looked back to see a crowd of people standing right where we had launched...it was Sam Mendes and crew scouting for locations for the new Bond movie [ Skyfall ]

Saw Beasts of the Southern Wild this evening. Sensational performance from the young lady who plays the lead, a really interesting story and great visuals and music. Well worth a watch.

I heard good things about the movie - if it's still on I might make it this month's movie at my cinema club at work.

I've just remembered I wanted to see the Asterix film, too. Probably have to wait for the DVD - yet again!

"Finally caught Iron Sky"
I watched Iron Sky as well and I was impressed with it, does put a lot
of big budget films to shame.

I'm going to echo something FB said a few weeks ago: Elizabeth Olsen is going to be (and deserves to be) huge. Watched Liberal Arts this evening and, whilst the writing won't change the world, it was elevated by some tremendous performances, one of which was given by Ms Olsen. Then there was Allison Janney who I would happily renounce my sexuality for: she can say more with one glance/glare than most actors can say with pages of exposition but the biggest surprise was Zac Efron. I really underestimated him and had him written off as a pretty-boy teeny-bopper but he was great in this.
The film had some lovely shots too: one in particular will stick with me for a while. Good film, worth catching on DVD if you can't get to the cinema.

The Filmhouse in Edinburgh is showing the US release of The Shining. It's around 44 minutes longer than the UK release and well worth it, with the extra scenes tying in well with the version we in the UK know and love. It's the first time I've seen it on the big screen and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I managed to see Skyfall, along with hundreds of others. Yes the cinema was packed and I was lucky to get a seat. Brilliant film and worth the money.
I also watched Jet Li in The Emperor and the White Snake. I still don't know who the Emperor was but it was an enjoyable bit of Cinese hokum. Tickles me how Buddhists have superhuman powers in these films.

Skyfall and I experienced a weird moment.
Bond held captive by villain whilst villain ticks off one by one, the things that drive Bond. He comes to the end of his list and looks at Bond who says something like 'Love of country'.
For the briefest of moments I reeled at the thought of Bond being a Tammy Wynette fan.

Ha! That caught me out as well PP I was half expecting Bond to declare his love of Kenny Rogers at that point.

I can't work out what's up with Argo here in Germany. It was released on 8 November, but I have found very little reference to it and the only place showing it this week is showing it in the original with subtitles. Is the subject matter so US/UK-centric that no one here would be interested except Americans and Brits?
