Brave.

A big ad for the Scottish tourist Biard- lovely scenery! Nice plot, the usual scots voice artists, with Emma Thompson doing a passable accent.

Make sure you cancel it on time, GB, if you don't want to start paying for it.

I have a lot of films to catch up on, but one I've been wanting to see since it came out was Source Code.

The ending messed it up for me. But then I watched it again with the commentary and it started to make sense. They said you have to watch it twice.

Jake Gyllenhal is a really nice guy. He is amazing looking, but doesn't do it for me.

And did I say I watched High Fidelity, cause I found the DVD kicking around? At the time (2000) the girl who played Laura was hailed as a Shooting Star. What happened to her then?

Oh - and very strange that both those films are set in Chicago. Odd coincidence. Particularly as in both cases, the location was very important to the atmosphere of the film.

I didn't order it, TC. They sent me a selection of films to watch for free. I've been through the blurb and I can't see that I'm signing up for anything. Just to be on the safe side though I will ring them before the expiry date to ensure I'm not charged for next monthsmiley - ok

The one who played Laura is still a big name in her native Denmark. I think she just wasn't willing to relocate to Hollywood.

Thanks, Xan. I thought that might have been the case, although I didn't go as far as checking her on IMDB. She did have a very striking face.

As for the end to Source Code - it seemed OK when watching the film, but afterwards I thought - "Hang on a minute! What happened to Sean, and how come Goodwin remembered the story, but no one else did?" Apparently, that's what you're supposed to think.

Watched Big Man Japan, billed as quirky funny and surreal.
Bah, terrible film made in a documentary style about a man who transforms
himself into a giant to fight monsters terrorising Japan.
All he does is stand around looking dopey or try to hug them into submission.
One to avoid.

Total Recall (Arnie version - we wanted a refresher before the new version arrives)

Far too gory for my taste. But quite fun. In a totally mental kind of way.

I thought it was quite sweet that in this amazing future, the telephone was still connected to the wall by a wire.

And how reassuring to know that an entire planet's atmosphere can be re-formatted and stabilised in under 30 seconds. Whew. We can all stop worrying about climate change, then.

<> and I am still waiting for that nail polish pen to be inventedsmiley - ok

Last night I watched a good chunk of "My step-mother is an alien" I would have watched to the end but with the ad-breaks it extended over 2 hours and I was way too tired - anyway I knew the ending.

This film STILL makes me laugh. I particularly love Dan Akroyd's smiley - geeksmiley - scientistcharacter and his reaction to the mega-sexy alien Kim Basinger. smiley - snorkThis time around I noticed that his daughter was Alyson Hannigan (about 9 years old) and she grew up to be Willow in Buffy. I loved the comment by the Elders when trying to define Earth marriage "you'll have to have more sex" (smiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laugh)

Watched the Total Recall remake this afternoon. I've never seen the original (I was 5 when it came out...) so I was watching with fresh eyes. There was a lot to enjoy, but also a lot to criticise: there were far too many world-breaking issues for me.

At the same time, there were a lot of very cool things to the film that made it stand apart from other action films: there was a very strong dualism motif the whole way through and it was very strong visually with a great use of space. Colin Farrell was good and Kate Bekinsale was *awesome* which helped a lot.

A warning: if you have any issues with strobing, you'll want to give the first 5 minutes a miss. I found the start of the film to be unwatchable because of it.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi

More Bollywood in the usual vein - except that the usual 'boy meets girl - boy gets girl' theme became 'middle aged man meets middle aged woman - middle aged man gets middle aged woman'.

Good fun.

Next Bollywood. Joker. Man returns to the village of his birth to find that it is being deprived of development by the authorities and appears on the maps of neither India nor Pakistan. Oh, it was by the way, the site of a huge psychiatric hospital.

There will be music. There will be dancing. There will be costumes in all 8 colours. There will be comedy. There will be aliens.

And boy WILL get girl.

Of the original versions on at the really good cinema around here, I have the choice between the Woody Allen Rome film and Chico and Rita. I'll let you know what i decide on because I won't have time before Tues/Wed to get to the flicks.....

Watched Autumn Sonata; not one of Bergman's best but still a powerful film.

The hunger games.
A dystopian future crossed between the Truman show, big brother, the x factor, and roman gladiatorial cobat.
The very short jittery camera work was tricky to watch, but a really well made movie. Certainly makes you think

Last night we watched A Town Called Panic, a French language animation. Someone on Lovefilm described it as Toy Story on absinthe, a description I cannot top smiley - biggrin

Bought the Avengers on DVD today: it's so unbelievably fun. There's a scene towards the end where you run through and see all the heroes fighting and interacting and I can just hear my 12-year old self going mental in my mind. The film knows its audience like almost no other and gives them exactly what they want.

There's some great character moments, dialogue to good I could weep and an amazing juggling of the characters so all of them seem to have a good film and no one dominates but the overwhelming feeling the film leaves you with is how much fun you've just had watching it.

I've seen The Dark Knight Rises today. My first cinema outing in months, and I'm glad I went.

I watched Fifth Element (again) on TV, I just can't get enough of Bruce Willissmiley - drool and I was really happy to see an upcoming sci-fi/time travel pic trailer at the cinema today, with him in it. Loopers, it was called.
