To write an e acute ( é ) as used in France, you hold down the Alt key and type in 0233.
Oh, sorry, that's a useful fact. 
OK, then, to type an a tilde ( ã ) you hold down the Alt key and type in 0227.
I can't think of a word in any language that I know that uses an ã.

He knows at least 2 languages I don't.
Fact about Folderol:
If he had thought a bit harder, instead of thinking for about 1/2 min, he'd have thought of Portuguese, or even done some research.
Unfortunately, the fact that the ã is used in Portugal, mens that that is a useful fact. It is also useful to Kashubian speakers from north central Poland - see, I did some research that time, Notso.

If I hold down the Alt key and start trying to type 0227, the first thing that happens is that Alt and 0 take me to this page:
