On King of the Hill, (a US animated series created by Mike Judge of Office Space and Beavis and Butthead) the character Boomhauer, (Jeff) a mumbling blond suburban Don Juan is a Texas Ranger.
The series just ended and a very brief view of his wallet in the final episode showed his driver's license and badge.

I quite like it. It goes against the usual practice of trying to attract an audience by presenting the extremes. For all their banality, the characters are the most true to life on TV.
