The one on my U-page is still there...
Is it okay if I leave it with you for tonight?

Right...anyone who gets here in the end...go to A1145477 then go and tell anyone you think might be willing to join. Get out there and spread the good word and ignore me whilst I desperately try and make it a prettier page

You can call me TC Posted Aug 15, 2003
This used to be called the Polyglott Plaza. A271379. I don't know what the position is since Jan 2002, although I see it has been visited since then.
There is also a Yahoo group for French speakers.
The German one started during Rupert, and is rather dead because the German group who were quite close when allowed to speak in German (RL meets and all) sort of fizzled out when moderation stepped in. It was a very lively group before then, meeting mainly at Bolle's Bulettenbude A292448. Most of us took serious umbrage at not being able to hold conversations in German after that. Some left for other reasons. Others just kept on in there, but haunting different areas of H2G2.
The GerManiaConnection is only dormant because I have very little time to update it, and the whole thing needs a complete overhaul. Have been looking for volunteers since the site went BBC, to check out the links and help me revise it all. It was a gigantic project when I started, and was at home all day with peace and quiet to work on it. The main problem now is lack of peace and quiet as my PC is on the landing and people keep walking past and talking to me and disturbing my concentration.
The Yahoo group for French speakers is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/H2G2_LPF/ no problem to get in for those who joined Yahoo during Rupert or who are members anyway.
More later - am off to check out the Polyglot Plaza and your new Language Thing

I've included the polyglot plaza as a group. I wasn't sure how active it was, although the Spanish thread still seems to be there.
The seeming problem with previous ones, except the Yahoo! groups, is that the moderators hate it. Therefore, we figured that if we just make here the BASE for the languages then people can branch off themselves. I'm thinking of making another page about learning languages as well, seeing as the ones I've found so far are getting a bit old and moth-eaten.

Tube - the being being back for the time being Posted Aug 15, 2003
It may be a workable way to post things in foreign languages while providing a translation (or summary) at the same time (as also suggested by Loup). and seeing that it would be in threads hanging off the Language Thingit should be assured that peer moderation takes place where necessary.

The Language Thing Posted Aug 15, 2003
Okay well I'll alter the front page slightly then and see what happens. I might also try starting a thread
Oh yes this is the alter-ego: The Language Thing by the way
Key: Complain about this post
