Beards: why?
ARS 102147 Posted Nov 21, 1999
In my case is to make me look older, but some people use it to hide their face or more like it, their acne. On the other hand, when you shave completly, you look clean and nice. Baby bottom style. If you let it grow all, you look dirty. Like you have not shower for a month, specially if you actually have not. But that of the george michael, well, people know that you take care of your self and that you are older to grow such a thing. Its a mix and more important, its what is COOL.
Or maybe is just that you are bored of looking the same and like to change a bit for a while. Or maybe all this is just crap.
Like Billy Joel say, I may be right, i may be crazy.
See you on the road
Beards: why?
Wood Nymph Posted Nov 21, 1999
This is so funny--I was thinking about beards just a couple of weeks ago. I wondered why there wasn't a men's depilatory cream, (realizing, of course, it's too feminine to market to men, and takes a long time to use) but then my brother (the only person I know who wouldn't think I was nuts to ponder this) said it would be just as painful and burning as shaving. It's been forever since I tried any, so I had to agree. He wears a goatee because he says he can't grow a full beard due to (old, invisible) acne scars. He usually goes a few days between shaves as well, since he doesn't have the kind of job that demands he be clean-shaven. Personally, I like a full-face, trimmed beard and mustache, or maybe one that just traces the jawline. I do *not* like kissing stubble, however--rubbing my lips and face with sandpaper is not my idea of pleasure. Now, a bit of binding on the other hand... Now, wasn't this thread supposed to have an answer as to why head hair grows long and arm hair doesn't? Wouldn't it have something to do genes and pre-programmed follicle production?

Normal hair grows to an infinite length.....pubic hair falls out when it reaches a geneticly pre-determined length. Just one of those biological things, I suppose!

I think that's not entirely accurate, I'm sorry!
When my hair reached my shoulders (I was 20 at that time), it seemed to stop growing. In fact I *lost* lots of hairs every day, as my brush/comb and pillow proved, but the volume of my hair didn't decrease. Now I'm twice as old, and I still don't show signs of baldness (I'm a fortunate man in that respect). I wear my hear much shorter now, and loose less hair.
This seems to suggest that at a certain (probably genetically determined) length hairs start to fall out and -if you're lucky- are replaced by new hairs.

No I don't know YOUR friend The Grim Squeaker, but I do know of a Grim Squeaker...
Shaving: why?
Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Nov 22, 1999
Why do I get up most mornings of the week and shave off hair that naturally wants to grow on my face? Especially since I'm the one running around saying that women look better with their natural hair colors and that one can't improve on nature? I mean, I've got an awful, pitiful beard when I do let it go... it looks terribly unattractive... but am I being hypocrytical? Why do we shave? I don't get it!

Never mind all the hirsuteness for a minute - let's hear some more from Wood Nymph about binding...

Just gliding in to cast my vote for bearded men. I prefer a man with facial hair.
It does not get in the way when kissing, etc......it's actually quite nice!
(big grin) I also like body hair.
I agree with Annonymouse on the fragrance bit, though.
I like my men raw.

Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Nov 22, 1999
Nope, I don't. I don't understand why people in our society are so hung up on appearances... it really isn't possible to improve on nature.

Luna(Queen of Hearts) Posted Nov 22, 1999
Irving, yes alot of people in our society are hung up on appearances.
However, some of us just have prefrences. Don't you find that a particular 'type' of person catches your eye/attention faster than others. We are somewhat visual creatures by nature. That does not mean that we are totally swayed by someones looks.
I, when meeting people/men, am an eye watcher. I listen to what they say while watching their eyes. Whether they are speaking to me, or someone else.

Do you find it at all annoying when these people are wearing colored contact lenses?

I believe I do feel mostly like Irving here. Sure, a woman might catch my *eye* for a moment when she looks good, but with me that only lasts if her looks are natural. Take Pamela Anderson for example: she's pumped up her lips and her breasts, and lots of people are drooling over her. But these people are likely to share their beds with a rubber doll anyway, so they wouldn't know the difference
I'd prefer a woman with a good heart and some brains. Much more fun to be with, talk to, etc.
I like blondes for example, but as soon as I know the a certain blonde isn't blond by nature, she's out of the picture immediately. Then I'd choose *any* woman, no matter what color her hair is, as long as it's natural and her heart is in the right place.

Glad to see you make no "bones" about that. (argh)

Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Nov 22, 1999
Is this a historic moment? The first time we've agreed on something? No, wait, we did that somewhere else once. Oh well. I was beginning to think that my brain was not made for life on this planet, but as someone is at least making an effort to understand me in this forum, I suppose that it's all just the typical identity crisis of an 18 year old. I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my life-style...
