Moral Dilemma [although quite a nice one :)]

Hello B. I don't think you said nubile it seemed to appear as the thread developed. The reason I'd be a little against entering into a relationship is the fact that I was in a similar position. I was twenty five and I met her on a training course. Her hobby was karate for God's sake! But I only found out her age when we were out together and we ran into a group of her girlfriends. She was seventeen and the conversation descended into one of those squealing girly giggling episodes. I felt like a dirty old man. In fact I still do

Unless you are prepared for it developing into something permanent I'd say leave well alone. Girls of 16 are especially vulnerable She is very likely to take a relationship seriously. At that age I was practising married signatures if I'd been on a couple of dates and cried for weeks if I got dumped. I may have been quite innocent but psychologically no different to friends who were more experienced. She would be easily hurt if you start cooling it for no reason apart from not interested in anything too heavy. You would lose the friendship of the whole family if she gets hurt and accused of taking advantage of her. My mother was extra protective and woe betide any guy who upset me if he crossed her path. You don't want this with a long standing family friend

Off topic, and indeed most other chocolate bars.
Anyway, I like the image of testosterone goblins. My flatmates and I had a similar concept called "The Lustmonster" who lived in the cupboard under the sink and came out and possessed people in a weakend state and made them do terrible things. The lustmonster was green and had yellow eyes, and looked a bit like those plastic jelly monster pencil-ends that you used to get.
Beware the lustmonster!!

Lots of mixed advice on here. Here's my two-pennies ...
Give it a try. You never regret the things you do, only the things you don't. In a few years time you'll look back and wonder what all the fuss was about. To my mind, the only thing that complicates your dilemna is the fact that you're a family friend and don't want to ruin that.
If you want to play things safer, why not just try dating for a few days/weeks/months. You don't have to get into anything squidgy immediately. You could actually try building a relationship first, and if all is well you can take it further, if not you can just stay a family friend. Hopefully no harm done

PS Any update?

I've been moving house, so that's been a good excuse for the time being.
I'm going to wait and see if she rings again, she said she would tonight.

Laws of Consent
Martin Harper Posted Nov 4, 2002
I felt like researching the laws of consent...
See http://www.addenbrookes.org.uk/shac/advice/law.html#sex
The situation is different in different parts of the UK, and different for regular vs anal sex. ("regular sex" - visions of McDonalds - would you like to go large?) Oh, it might also different for girls and boys.
It's all up for review (praise be), since we're supposedly in the 21st century and such.
I can't *see* anything legally against a 21yo(+) male having non-anal sex with a non-intoxicated 16-18yo female in England, but IANAL, so don't take my word for it. They'd probably get you for 'outraging public decency' or somesuch if they wanted to put you in prison. Or 'behaviour liable to cause a breach of the peace' when her mother finds out.

Or Perry Mason, for that matter.
Thankyou Martin. Partially for the legal advice, partially for assuming I'm not going to take her up the tradesmans'.

Well, TINLA does stand for "This is not Legal Advice"...

I guessed that stood for "I am Not A Lawyer"...although the use of the word anal in the piece did make it look suspect!!

Strictly, "tradesman's" - it has to be plural.

*ahem*
The 'tradesman's entrance' (or tradesmen's entrance) was the entrance to an upper class house reserved for mere workmen, and was often round the back of the house, and not particularly appealing aesthetically.
Actually, one of the caves I helped explore in Slovenia had a pitch (vertical drop) named "The Tradesman's Entrance" because it started as a narrow tube that led to a small hole in the side of a largish vertical shaft, and was a bit of a bugger to get back into on the way up. As it turned out, the name was quite prescient, as later on the large cave system it led into was connected with an easier way in, making the more tortuous tradesman's route the less-preferred backdoor option.
I hope that explanation wasn't too obscure. If it was, try searching the web for 'Roger's Profanisaurus'
Laws of Consent
xyroth Posted Nov 5, 2002
lucinda, as far as I know, that law is still in place.
on the other hand, you are unlikely to be prosecuted for it.
like the witchcraft laws, most people (including police and lawyers) are unaware of the offence.

Hmm...our euphemisms aren't so pleasant here. They mostly are crass and inflammatory towards gays
(wow, I think that's the first time I've used that smiley..must have hit a nerve )
