Hmmm
In my guide to "the fish of Europe in 56 languages" that I happen to have on my desk, it translates vivaneau as the "Bottom feeding sewer fish" in English and says that if you don't cook it for four hours the little fish that live in it escape and swim around in your stomach!

Bonjour francophones une et all! J'étais à Paris par six semaines, but now I'm back in Australia so I've decided to practice my French a bit more - good timing, eh? 
I studied French a while ago at school, but didn't pay any attention, et tandis que j'étais en France j'ai seulement parlé Français en Boulangeries et Patisseries "Une baguette et deux eclairs au chocolat s'il vous plait" After all, when in a foreign country what do you really need to speak the language for? That's right, to get food! SO my French ranges from surprisingly good in a few very small, specialised areas to woefully poor in most 
If nothing else, posting here might help improve my vocabulary so that I can speak to all of the many thousands of French speakers in Austra... never mind
