I was in England, in Ipswich, visiting with my fiance, for two weeks over Christmas. It seemed quite mild for the most part, if a bit damp. I'm almost considering moving there instead of his moving here. Your weather seems more temperate.

yes we have a mostly oceanic climate. If you don't mind rain its wonderful. In the east of Uk its a bit drier though. And we did have an unusually hot summer last year. But we don't normally have extremes. It was particularly mild at christmas

I don't mind rain, really. I actually love the rain, for a multitude of reasons.
Having been there for Christmas, I must say that everything, including the weaher, was quite lovely. Your summer was quite hot, but we often get them that hot here as well, so I could take that. I'd gladly do without the extremes we get here in Chicago, though, It's all we get. No "seasons", just extremely hot or bitterly cold. We only get a few weeks in between either.
Bear in mind, though... I love this city, and my opinions of eastern England are a bit biased.

Seems like the English climate would suit you then. London is a great city too. I've lived here for years and I love it

Well. London isn't far from where I was staying... won't say I'm not considering relocating there as a feasible option!

Wow! With a bang! One minute relatively quiet, next minute, wind, rain, gales, things a-flying, rafts of rain sweeping across the yard at work, great mists of it bouncing back off the vans and cars, trees a-bending and swaying, windows banging and the local gasometer has vanished in a sheet of water, I know it's there somewhere, but just not visible. There's a power out there.....

Caberra, 7pm Tuesday 13 January.
About 28C, breezy, humid, thunderstorm brewing on northern horizon. This won't affect us here. Looks quite dramatic, though.
Ivan.

Severe weather warning for today.
Last night was extremely windy - gusts up to 100 km/hr, and this morning it has been raining heavily.

Tonbridge is that bit too far south. We caught it in south east London I can tell you. Doesn't strong wind make interesting noises? I love it. calmer now and sunny and fairly mild. London 15.30pm 13 jan.

Bob came home a few days before Christmas.
Here in LA, for the last week we've been getting high 70sF in the day and 50F at night. There's been light breezes all week to waft away the smog and only a spare isolated sheep'sworth of clouds. Everyone expects it's just a fluke, and so they are wearing shorts in anticipation of a longer cold period.
My pansies and violas are blooming like mad, and my Dahlia's buds, which were languishing as the plant was dying down, are now opening. Not a full dinnerplate, but still 15cm in diameter, so they are making a winter splash and preventing me from dividing them as planned. Aphids and powdery mildew should slow it down in time though, so no worries. The fuschias were doing some growing emphasis with only a few light blooms (as they tend to do in cooler than 65F weather), but now they are fooled and are blooming gangbusters again.
