Winter is truly here. This morning on the radio I heard that one of the local roads over the moors have been shut due to snow.
Even so today is grey, windy, dry and milder than it has been for a few days.

The snow has nearly all melted now after it came down heavy on Monday Night. It is cold but no rain at the moment.

Rain! Rain! *does brief and undignified jig; sprains ankle*
OK, so there's not much of it - maybe 3 or 4 mm - but it's better than none. 25C and steamy. The cicadas have finally shut up, too.
Ivan.

It is getting light now but the sky is covered with cloud. It is rather parky out (est 5C).

No idea what the real world is doing but my model is finally (after a lot of work) giving me more cloud and rain where I wanted it to be. Unfortunately, it's giving me rather too much elsewhere, but hey - that's rather typical of this job. (I work on developing a weather model.) Now, who was it who wanted more rain?

Rain, please. As much as you can spare. Just after lunch tomorrow would be good as I should be out of the garden by then. Just send it all to Canberra, if you would.

Bright and breezy making feel cold. At least it's stopped raining.

Very heavy rain over the past few days. The river Moselle has flooded riverside towns at some points, so that the swans are able to swin around the town centre.
The whole drainiage system is struggling with the volume - my washing machine and dishwasher need constant vigilance with saucepans and buckets as they overflow into the sink.

It's bitingly cold, with a partially clear sky, with a few whispy high clouds. The sun has been shining. It makes your teeth chatter.

Yesterday, the sky was enclosed in a very high and very thin shell of cloud punctuated by contrails and a few wisps of clouds at the same level. In the afternoon, say 3ish to 4ish, this resulted in not rainbows, but 'rainsplotches'. Rainsplotches, as now defined by me, were where the combination of the sun being low *in relation to the rare cloud or contrail*, and shining through the veil of the shell, caused an interference pattern within that particular formation. It was more like looking through a large very bright polarizing microscope objective than a rainbow. The colors were brightly visible but not in the rainbow order, and there was no arc or bow as it was confined specifically to the cloud or contrail.
