Way back somewhere it was mentioned that nudity isn't illegal in itself in the UK. This is true, else nudist beaches would be illegal, wouldn't they? What is illegal is if someone makes a complaint, or if you're committing indecent exposure, which firstly has something to do with intent, and secondly has to do with the perception of others. It's like the definition of carrying an offensive weapon in public - if the public don't perceive it as an offensive weapon, then it's not, even if it's a three-foot razor-sharp sword which you're waving above your head (although I doubt there are many people who wouldn't peceive that as a threat).

Isn't the law weird?

Indeed. There's a really really old law in Scotland that says all vehicles in Edinburgh must have a provision for hay for the horses...which basically means all those cars should have a bale on their roofracks. And in Melbourne, you must get a registered electrician to change your lightbulb or you'll be fined $10!

I do think you need a special permit to make something a nudist beach. You can't just make an unofficial one in UK.

I also wondered about the one with guys in women's clothing. I mean they would not be sharing it with other women anyway would they? It would just be in the general area.

I know Bournemouth famously outlawed nudist beaches during the 70's. I only remember this because of the immortal quote from the council spokeswoman:

"We do want Bournemouth to be regarded as a swinging town, but when it comes nude sunbathing in public we really touch bottom"

I think the one touching bottoms should be spanked!

So how do people think f. ex. children would react to a naked person walking down the street? Would they be in therapy untill they were 30, would they simply ask mum why the guy was naked, or would they just ignore it?

I think children would be more accepting, to be honest. It's people who are stuck in the stone age who would be the main complainers. We all look the same underneath, what is the big deal about nudity?

Unless you are a sexually aroused male, there are no laws in place to stop you wandering around naked. It is a breach of the peace however, if others complain. Therefore, being naked in your own garden is legal, but if your neighbours object, it is illegal.

Just a thought... but surely your neighbours don't have to look at you? If they do watch you, could they be classified as peeping toms by doing so? Nobody is forcing them to look after all. Wouldn't it be an infringement of your civil liberties not to be able to wander about starkers in your own home (or grounds) if you so desire?

I hasten to add, I remain fully clothed at all times as without them I'm not a pretty sight and would frighten the horses!

I tired this one - an invasion of my privacy and all that, and all I got was 'build 6 foot fences'! Which was no help, as they were watching from the bedroom windows. smiley - sadface
