Well that explains Totti's 2nd yellow then, and as I say as it was clearly designed to get a penalty in a game where they showed no likelihood of scoring a second goal, I thought it was very well deserved.

ahn cant sue: he was only on loan...
nevertheless, the italians are behaving very badly...
complaining about the offiseds is fine cos they were dodgy.
complaining about the penalty and the sedning off isnt on

I heard a pundit say that the referees have been good, but their assistants have been poor. That sounds about right to me....
Otto
PS. Does anyone know where I can get a Pierluigi Collina print / poster/ photograph? A picture of the world's scariest ref brandishing a yellow card would look great framed....

I could live with them moaning about the reffing, after all, Sir Alex has that down to a fine art. And at least they've not yet tried to blame the colour of the pitch, their away strip or the fact that the opposition fans made too much noise...
But blaming it on a conspiracy at FIFA and the other nonsense they are spouting is ridiculous. Apparently the Italian parliament is to have a debate on the Death of Italian Football.
Which says everything you need to know about the state of the Italian economy and the reasons for it, I'l think you'll find...

Otto:
I've got a couple of video grabs from the 'Footballitis' advert which has 'Stare of Death' Collina on it; unfortunately the shot just cuts off the yellow card - would you like them anyhow?
Stay ,

My personal theory on collina is that he is not of this world and must be a strong case for visitations from outer space, thats why he's a good ref, he's not human!

I'm sorry but the Italians have a point!

Indigestion Tablet,
I'm from the USA and I wanted to be a little bit glib. But if you think I should revise my prediction, I'll be happy to take it under advisement.
Germany 2:3 USA

Germany/West Germany have *never* lost a penalty shootout.
My predictions on the h2g2 Fantasy Football site were:
England 2 Brazil 2 ... er, then we get a golden goal...
Devil 2 Deep Blue Sea 1 (sorry!)
Spain 3 South Korea 1
Senegal 1 Turkey 0
Eagle 1, about 4:30 every Tuesday. We've got some more round the back.
My indigestion is wearing off - I'll be back to normal soon. As normal as I get, that is.

West Germany have lost on penalties at least once.
The final of the 1976? European Championship Final against Czechoslovakia did the trick. The first time a tournament was decided using that method.
That must have made them buckle down a bit though, coz I've never seen them lose.
Still - against England in the final would be a nice time to see it.
