England to win?
Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Jun 18, 2002
they deserve all they get. and spain were lucky not to be shafted in exactly the same manner. i tell you, if i were a manager id be ultra offensive and get extremely annoyed even if i saw my defenders passing along the back line unless it was absolutely necessary...the purpose of footie is to score, not not concede

I wholeheartedly agree. It was North Korea in '66 that spawned that fortress mentality, and it's high time they stopped going on about it. Hmmm, who knows, after Friday, we may be in a position to do the same.

I'd say most of England seem to be doing that. most people I know seem to be falling into a complacent frame of mind.
'Brazil's defence is rubbish, therefore England will win easily'
Hmmm. I seem to rember a 4-0 and a 5-2 scoreline earlier in the tournament.
Brazil are capable of beating England and vice versa. Whatever happens it ain't gonna be no tight midfield tussle.
Breakfast TV on the BBC this morning used a Korean Water bowl to predict a 3-2 win to England.
Hope so. Will be a good match with lots of goals I reckon

me being one of probably 15 Americans that actually cares about soccer(football), am personally very impressed with the US showing this WC. I find it highly doubtful that the US team will win, but it would be really nice if they did. If the US team can pull their defense together it will be a close match, but if they falter as they did against Poland it will be a blow-out. I'm actually fairly optimistic about the match.

The US team have definitely played above themselves which I guess shows that team play can beat the individual flair of 'on paper' better teams. Good for them.
Certainly USA's captain (I think) is Claudio Reyna - he has never set the world alight as a club player and is little more than a journeyman professional really so I don't think USA have particularly talented players but they have got further than Italy, Argentina, France, Portugal et al. Good work - I must say though I think they'll finally come unstuck against Germany. Good luck though

If they make it past the Germans i will be pleasantly shocked. Like i said they have already exceeded all of my expectations.

the guy in the mirror said we should be supportiung the germans not the US...saying that if it takes off there theyll turn the game into quarters so they can go to the fridge more often.

Ignore that. I wish you'd use capitals more often - you had me worried for a moment.

Ok read it all. No judging by the political implications of the World Cup so far.
USA beat Mexico in the second round and are not scheduled to meet
Germany who they have beaten twice in two World Wars
Then they are scheduled to meet either Spain or Korea who they have both fought in wars and run. So they will make the final.
So we are looking for somone in the other half of the draw wh have faced the Americans in battle, the only candidate left in
ENGLAND!!!!
Ok so maybe that's just a pipe dream!

Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Jun 19, 2002

Ste Posted Jun 19, 2002
All he said was that Korean football was superior to Italian. Which is stretching the truth a bit, but is not worth the sack! The guy who sacked him said he was a nationalist (like it's something to be proud of in Italy) and that it deeply offended him or something!
It's not as if he's not going to get any job offers now though is it?
