Nice one!
Totti, Totti, Totti - I mean, acting on the pitch never got you anywhere...
Nice legs though...

Ross Posted Jun 18, 2002
Of course not - why would we possibly think that.
Anyway Spain will have to change tactics now - they play a very similar style to the Italians, they also almost came unstuck against Ireland using the same tactics. I think this at least guarantees an interesting Quarter Final.
Personally my money is on semis of
England v Senegal
Germany v Spain - I just cant see Spain making the same mistakes twice

Me Myself & i! Posted Jun 18, 2002
so your money is on an England WIN on Friday????
I hope and pray you are right, after all Engalnd seem to better on the "BIG" games, having said that an afternoon slot in the south is not the best for us, but is GOOD for Brazil.
So yeah Id like to see England Vs Senegal, but I also reckon Korea can do the business with Spain.
This World Cup is anything but predictable, so we'll have 2 wait and see!

England to win?
Ross Posted Jun 18, 2002
I definitely think England have their best chance ever to beat Brazil.
Their defence is getting better by the game, with Ferdinand and Seaman in outstanding form. The midfield looks more balanced with Sinclair on the left and with Beckham also getting better/fitter every game they have the capability to frustrate and neutralise the Brazilian midfield and finally Owen has at long last got on the score sheet, so his confidence will be high and the Brazilians seem to genuinly fear him.
So yes this is one Scot who is shouting "Come on England"

Me Myself & i! Posted Jun 18, 2002
Thats all dependant on OWEN being fit for the game. Im sure he will be.
I hope Sven is coaching his men to be agressive in attack and defence. The Danes were obviously ( and noticably) nervious just before the game the other day - The Brazilians wont be! They're in it to win like us....

Ross, oh my god no!!!!!!!
I dont want to stir trouble but.........
For me and many Scots the final is friday and I hope to god Brazil win (even tho I dont want them to win).
Why? We are fed up of hearing about England, not from Joe public but pundits and commentators that we are forced to listen to.

England always play their best in these situations.
I think that the Brazilians will look at the game and will be fearing us far more than we will be fearing them.
If we do get beaten, then we can say that we made the quarter finals and got beaten by one of the best teams in the world, so we shouldn't be feeling the pressure.
Whereas Brazil have still got a lot to prove, as they seem to place themselves as favourites for each tournament.

.. nothing like cheering on your neighbours is there!!!!!

Well perhaps if Scotland had made it to the tournament we might be hearing a little about them too...
Come on, that is enough sour grapes. Why not support your neighbours just as the English would be supporting Scotland if they had got there?

The reason you keep hearing about the English is because there's no Scot's team in the Cup, because, if I remember correctly, they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Frankly, listening to Alan bl**dy Hanson is painful enough. I thank God we don't have more reasons to listen to the English language being raped. And don't even get me started on Gazza.
England to win?
Me Myself & i! Posted Jun 18, 2002
Exactly my point.
I was cheering on the Irish til they got knocked out and would have done the same for Scotland ( if they could play well enough...).
Whats the point in cheering on Brazil if you want them out anyway!
By the way the world cup is dominating the news because it is a great tornament and the English care about it, if you were in the USA right now you would even know it was happening ( the World cup that is) even though the USA Team are still in it!!!!

I meant in general, I dont want to hear about England ehen the two teams playing are say Ireland and Spain or S.Korea and Italy.
Secondly, I like to see England do well, I'm half English. I just dont want them to win the world cup as the media will be unbearable for neutrals (my Turkish friend agrees he wants impartial commentry)

ali1kinobe Posted Jun 18, 2002
Just to finally get the bee out of my bonnet if Scotland were in the competition we would still get very little mention and I doubt the Scottish members of the BBC team would be allowed to wax lyrical about Scotland during say, turkey vs brazil
England to win?
Me Myself & i! Posted Jun 18, 2002
You'll never get impartial commentary because 99 times out of 100 the commentators are commenting on one or the other teams.
Ie Korea dont really care how England are doing at present because they aint come into contact with us yet. Having said that if they did Koreans would be interested in us!!!!

So is the Turkish media not talking about Turkey all the time?
I only get to watch most of the games via the BBC website so I haven't noticed them waxing lyrical about anything! Also, I didn't notice them going on about england during the Ireland game on Sunday.
Anyway, hooray for South Korea!
So what are the odds on an England-Germany final being decided on penalties

Id just like to congratulate all involved in this thread for the speed of information...
I don't know if anyone else is following the BBC's on-line live text commentary of the matches, but Abi managed to announce the final Korean goal a good two minutes before the official BBC commentator...
Ain't H2G2 great

I disagree, commentry should be just that, analysis of the actual game being played should also play a part. It should not be team talk about a team not involved in the current game.
Sure the majority of the audience may be english, but a sizealbe minority isnt and they should be allowed to watch football, unrelated to England, without hearing constantly about England.
Key: Complain about this post
