Ottox I think you have just founded a new h2g2 organisation here
I've lifted a copy for my page as well

Whenever I make a thing like this, fell free to use it! Now, let us - or rather the others, the "talkers" - get on with the discussion!

Thanks, Ottox, it's cool.
*Leaves in return* You see what lurking can do for you? It can get you goodies, that's what.
Perhaps we could have an (un)official h2g2 lurkers society? Obviously, nobody would be post anything there, so it would be a pretty quiet kind of a place.

A pretty quiet place: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A386552
A page which doesn't exist: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A467147
None of these places would be the right one for a lurkers society, though! It's just the Keeper of Links in me, that can't help mentioning them! Please get back to the discussion!

Wow - I will put this on the talk page for next week.
I have to say that in my experience listening is a much under-rated skill and one that an awful lot of people would do well to perfect.
So stand up and be proud to lurk / listen!

Hmm.. your work hours seem quite interesting. Though I work quite a lot, I don't work THAT much!
Though, I think your job's way better than mine. You want to switch?

Logging on from home.
I was a Researcher before I was an Italic and I love the vibe of the site so much that sometimes I just cannot keep away...
Hey it is either that or housework!

Becerikli Posted Jul 5, 2001
Have you tried to suggest that you should get paid for overtime?
You're right, housework is not as much fun.. well, actually I think almost anything is more fun than housework.

It's too hot for housework anyway!

I'm definitely going to have to post that badge on my page, too. When I tried I got nothing but a bunch of code to show. I'll try to figure it out next week. The funny part though, was that while I was in there pushing buttons, a message appeared for a minute about the page being hidden or something. Oh! the divine irony if I'd been moderated for lurking activities!
Have a great weekend, all

Briefly mentioned already, I think - the moderators are clearly the kings of lurking - as far as I understand it EVERYTHING that is posted goes by the moderators, so NOTHING is private (I know this fact has already been established...) - if people want lurker-less conversations, h2g2 is NOT the place to have them - the same as if you were having a private conversation with someone IRL you wouldn't use megaphones...
I don't know if this has been made clear or not - the term "lurking" was applied to many other online activities before h2g2 - MUDs etc being a prime example - it's not necessarily derogatory, just indicating someone who hangs around in the background without actually contributing - and in a place like h2g2, that's certainly fine, isn't it? If this is meant to be the ultimate guide to LtU&E, wouldn't the emphasis be on reading and contemplating the information? If you look at it in this way, contributing becomes secondary, and although obviously most people are here to discuss and communicate, there are still many who digest the information without offering their own opinions.
I don't know if I actually had a point or not, but I feel better after putting in my own 2 cents
