Hi, Corinth.

I hit the yikes button. There may have been others, but I suspect not. I hit it because I was somewhat concerned about what you had posted - while you had not specifically said that you wanted to attract 15 year old girls for sex, it had been implied somewhat, and you refused to deny it when asked. I did not trust myself to say this in the thread without causing degeneration (it's been a bad week for that kind of thing), so instead I used the smiley - yikes button, and sent it to a wiser person than me to judge. smiley - erm

Let me just say, though, that I do not intend my objection to be a value judgement on old men who go out with younger women - heck, if you've still got what it takes, go for it! However, the (completely arbitrary) age of 16 has been set as the legal limit to that, and I'd not like to see h2g2 offering a guide on how to break the law. Let's try and respect that, and get back to our conversation. For example, what present should a suitor bring a girl on her 16th birthday, if he wishes to make an 'impression'? smiley - smiley

-Martin, who is a stickler for such things...

Assuming we're all British, of course- other countries/states can have it completely different. Someone from an area where the law's set at 18 might see this as a disturbing discussion.

Did I mention that the hypothetical birthday party in question will hypothetically take place on UK soil? smiley - winkeye

That's alright, then. No loose ends. smiley - smiley
Bizarre how you're expected to adapt to a whole different idea of what constitutes 'mature enough' if you happen to move.
There's a website listing all the laws. It is called ageofconsent and is a URL.

Yes, morality and legality are too very seperate things, aren't they? smiley - erm

Myself, I feel that the moral thing to do varies hugely from girl/woman to girl/woman, but that the law has to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and 16 is as good a place as any. Of course, it can be hard to remember either law or ethics when you are in love... smiley - loveblush

Lucinda - mainly in love with the whole world smiley - winkeye

Being in love with the world must be very time-consuming. Just think of all those perfumed notes you'd have to send...
From a personal perspective, if I'd had the chance pre-16, I would have. Bearing in mind I would have used contraception, and if it went disastrously wrong I wouldn't have cried Rape! because that (to me) is just a tad hypocritical. Besides, I'm firmly on the sex-with-love side (and responsibility, of course.)
But I didn't. Once again, I was denied the opportunity to be a law-breaking, loosely-laced floozie. Damn...
-Mandragora, who has never sent nor received a perfumed note.

"Dearest Darling, thankyou for your circular..."
I would imagine that not everyone in the world would be grateful for this global love. Some certainly don't deserve it.

What an interesting experiment this has turned out to be. I've met many interesting people, and angered many others. Mandragora and jwf in particular I feel to be particularly compassionate understanding individuals. Others who write such ridiculous things as, "...while you had not specifically said that you wanted to attract 15 year old girls for sex, it had been implied somewhat, and you refused to deny it when asked," have proven to be less sympathetic. Lucinda, this is not true. I thought I had explained myself. Do I need to hand out politician-style flat denials in order to have my freedom of speech respected? I far prefer rational explanations to blanket statements.

Well, I think I've made enough of a splash for now. I certainly never intended to anger anyone. It was just a simple question. And now it seems this thread has degenerated into the off-topic back-and-forths that pollute so many others. I think I'll now turn my attention to my space. It's less public, and those who want now know where to find me. I'll check back here from time to time, of course, but my control of it has been ursurped by reactionary yikesers.
Thank you all for your time.

well i'm not angry or envious. just sad that men become "dignified" with age, while women just become and old and saggy.

thanks for that (sad face)

Yo Corinth! Wow a simul-posthumourous! While you were posting here I was posting parrallel but dissimilar thoughts 'elsewhere' in our other conversation. Great minds think alike, eh! Here is what I said:

"Peta has called-me-out by name so if I don't respond over there I'll be guilty of 'ignorance' in the sense of the subethanet verb 'to ignore'. It won't look good on my rap sheet.
Therefore, Quandry: How not to get sucked into defending my outrageous position as Grampa Simpson, geriatric rebel?
I want to avoid my age-disrimination-and-ill-mannered-youth questions becoming a bigger issue here than your outrageous position of love being blind to age. My battle will have to be fought elsewhere.
So I'm just going to fall silent, because I see your thread as a chance for lovers of all ages to achieve a small victory in the face of ignorance, prejudice and the dreaded political correctness that passes for thoughful concern but is really just new-age gossip."

peace, and keep your pecker up (god I hope you're british and get that expression as intended)

Harold and Maude

Anyone remember 'Harold and Maude'?

The inverse of Corinth's requirement since Harold is 19 or so and Maude is 70.

I have tracked down some links and am putting them in my links page.

Post 116

Corinth

This conversation has generated some lovely quandary on the difference between morality and legality, ageism, and whether I have a right to speak freely, but I have yet to be told where I can find some nice friendly girls!

Thailand or Singapore would appear to be good hunting grounds for your particular requirements.

... And Rudyard Kipling

Post 118

a girl called Ben

Which reminds me that one of the moderated entries included some quotes from Rudyard Kipling. I thought copyright expired at 50 years after the writer's death, but apparently it is 70 years.

I'll add a link to the poem 'My Rival' too.

Louis Thoreau did a 'Wierd Weekend' with the wife-agencies of Thailand. I had two male lodgers at the time, and when we watched the program we decided we wanted a Thai wife each. Mine would only be expected to cook and do the housework, I think they had additional duties in mind.

So?

Post 119

Corinth

Why? Because there are no young women anywhere else, or rather because you are choosing to stereotype those countries as places where...?
Why thailand and singapore?

So?

Post 120

a girl called Ben

Because there are marriage agencies which put young asian women who want a western husband in touch with western men who want young asian wives; and these agencies specialise in Thailand and Singapore.

The mechanism exists, all you need to do is sign up.
